Somfy / Bali Autoview Layered Shades Z-Wave Control

I have been using Indigo to control insteon devices for years and just added the Z-Wave interface to control new Bali Layered Shades (Somfy motor with Z-Wave).

I successfully added the shades to the Z-Wave network and can control them with indigo using 0-100% brightness settings. The problem that I run into though is that with the layered shades the 0-100% control increments are not accurate enough, e.g. 2% is too much closed and 3% is too much opened. I theoretically would need to set the level to e.g. 2.5% - which indigo does not support. I can set the exact open position that I want to achieve with the shade's Z-wave remote that is also part of the network. Looking at the event log I can see the command that the remote is sending to the shades:

Z-Wave Debug RCVD sceneActivateCmd2: 01 0B 00 04 00 03 05 5B 03 FF 02 03 50
Z-Wave Debug . . sceneActivateCmd2: node 003, type: 2, scene: 3
Z-Wave received "Primary Remote Office Blinds " scene 515
Z-Wave Debug RCVD sceneActivateCmd2: 01 0B 00 04 00 03 05 5B 03 00 01 03 AC
Z-Wave Debug . . sceneActivateCmd2: node 003, type: 1, scene: 3
Z-Wave received "Primary Remote Office Blinds " scene 259

Is there a way to duplicate this command with indigo? I tried reading through numerous Z-wave threads but couldn't find anything on sending such a command to the device.

Can't help with your question, but wondering how you went about including your shades into the Indigo Z-wave network. I've got four of these in the house and have done some research into it. Obviously its possible but I wasn't able to get my Gen 2 stick to include them. Also, once included were you able to also control the shades with the 2-button controller that came with it?

Re: Somfy / Bali Autoview Layered Shades Z-Wave Control

Jeff, including them was not really a problem at all. I followed the instructions on page 15/16 of this manual: https://www.baliblinds.com/globalassets/3.-documents/installation-instructions/bali-motorization-owners-manual-autoview.pdf
I first excluded all remotes from the shade network, then each shade from the network. I then included each shade and remote in the indigo z-wave network and then added the remotes again as a secondary controller to the shade.
I am using a Gen5 stick though - not sure if that makes a difference.

Re: Somfy / Bali Autoview Layered Shades Z-Wave Control

I'm not sure if it will work, but what are the node IDs for both your scene transmitter and the shades receiver?

And are the 2 commands you posted the logging from the ones you want to be able to manually send?

Re: Somfy / Bali Autoview Layered Shades Z-Wave Control

Ok, so the zwave debug log you've provided isn't going to help us achieve what you want at this point.

The two commands you've shown are, in English, "The down button was held down" then "The down button was released" (or the Up button; they're labelled buttons 1 and 2 in the command, but not sure which is which for your remotes). This is the same commands as say a Zwave dimmer lightswitch where you hold the up/down button for as long as you want the light to dim for, then let go when it's at the right brightness. Unless you already know exactly where the blind is positioned, and you can time accurately how long the button was held down for, you're not going to accurately set the position of the blind.

Can you install my new ZWave Watcher plugin from here, then create two ZWave Watcher devices and select nodes 2 and 3 (Blinds and Remote).

You can then turn off Zwave Debugging as it fills the log with tonnes of data.

Now play about with your blinds and remote - the log will show the raw zwave command for any command received from those two nodes, rather than (with normal debug on) absolutely every zwave command.

To pause or stop the logging of these commands, just disable or delete the ZWave Watcher device and leave the plugin installed - you can use it for other zwave debugging in future.

See what commands you get logged, if any, and report back.

Re: Somfy / Bali Autoview Layered Shades Z-Wave Control

Ok, let's have a play...

Keep the Watcher plugin running.

Can you install This beta of my Scene Controller plugin - purely as a place to put the testing code for now!

Ignore all the rest of the plugin, just go straight to Plugins > ZWave Scene Controller where you will find three menu items.

Before you try each one, set the "Blind Office Entrance" blind to some arbitrary position that isn't fully up, fully down, "Home" or half-way. If you have access to the power switch for the blinds, just in case, it might be handy - I don't think for a minute anything will go wrong, it will either work or won't, but it can't harm it to be near the power!

Now, first, try "Call Home Position (Press)" - this should (maybe, hopefully) send the blind "Home".

See what happens with the blind and the Watcher log.

If it didn't work, try "Call Home Position (Hold Release)" - as above, this might also send the blind "Home".

Finally, regardless of what the other two items did, try "Call Position" and pick 1, 50 or 99 - these should send the blind to almost-up, half-way and almost-down respectively. (Or down/up instead of up/down)

See what happens and report back. :)

Re: Somfy / Bali Autoview Layered Shades Z-Wave Control

Hey, thanks a lot for your help already :)

Installed the plugin and played with it a little bit.

so first again the log when I press the button on the remote:

Z-Wave Watcher Debug Raw command received (Node 2): 01 0B 00 04 00 02 05 26 03 02 02 00 D2

I moved the blind a little bit up and then activated played with the scene controller buttons, unfortunately nothing moves. :
Aug 13, 2017, 8:44:24 PM
Z-Wave Scene Controller Debug Call Home Position Press menuitem called
Z-Wave Scene Controller Debug Blind selected: Blind Office Entrance

When I use the call position function I can get the blind to move - these positions are equivalent to the brightness level positions out of indigo:

Z-Wave Watcher Debug Raw command received (Node 2): 01 0B 00 04 00 02 05 26 03 1D 1D 00 D2

Re: Somfy / Bali Autoview Layered Shades Z-Wave Control

Ok, we're not going to be able to recall a specific numeric position finer-tuned than you're already getting with brightness; the ZWave implementation of the blind is defined as a "Multilevel switch" which only allows decimal values 0-100.

However if you try the new beta version of the plugin (same link) then:

a) set it to some arbitrary position
b) do plugins > zwave scene controller > Call home (press)

That should mimic the "home" button on your remote. (I've changed code from yesterday)

Assuming it does work, then press whichever remote button sends it to position 0 (you might need to play with this beforehand then see which log command says position 0) - not sure if it's Up or Down.

Then do plugins > zwave scene controller > Call Position > "Last used"

That should send it to the last non-zero position. So if you only ever use it at Zero and at "Something" then you can toggle between Zero and Something via this command.

See what happens.

Re: Somfy / Bali Autoview Layered Shades Z-Wave Control

Peter, thanks, making progress!

So unfortunately the home button press / hold release still do not work. I do not get any response on these functions.

Aug 14, 2017, 8:17:49 PM
Z-Wave Scene Controller Debug Call Home Position Press menuitem called
Z-Wave Scene Controller Debug Blind selected: Blind Office Entrance
Z-Wave Scene Controller Debug Sending Home Position command... hopefully...
Z-Wave sent "Blind Office Entrance" raw command [26 05]
Z-Wave Watcher Debug Raw command sent (Node 2): 01 09 00 13 02 02 26 05 25 95 76 (True)
Z-Wave Scene Controller Debug Call Home Position Hold Release menuitem called
Z-Wave Scene Controller Debug Blind selected: Blind Office Entrance
Z-Wave Scene Controller Debug Sending Home Position command... hopefully...
Z-Wave sent "Blind Office Entrance" raw command [5B 03 04 01 03]
Z-Wave Watcher Debug Raw command sent (Node 2): 01 0C 00 13 02 05 5B 03 04 01 03 25 96 0A (True)
Z-Wave sent "Blind Office Entrance" raw command [5B 03 05 02 03]
Z-Wave Watcher Debug Raw command sent (Node 2): 01 0C 00 13 02 05 5B 03 05 02 03 25 97 09 (True)

Not sure what the reason is. Could it be that the remote only works on a quick push/release of the home button? If I hold the home button on the remote for a longer time it actually sets the current position as the new home.

What works though is the last position command:

Aug 14, 2017, 8:18:19 PM
Z-Wave Scene Controller Debug Call Position menuitem called
Z-Wave Scene Controller Debug Blind selected: Blind Office Entrance
Z-Wave Scene Controller Debug Setting blind to position 255 ... hopefully...
Z-Wave sent "Blind Office Entrance" raw command [26 01 FF FF]
Z-Wave Watcher Debug Raw command sent (Node 2): 01 0B 00 13 02 04 26 01 FF FF 25 98 7B (True)
Z-Wave received "Blind Office Entrance" status update brightness 2
Z-Wave Watcher Debug Raw command received (Node 2): 01 0B 00 04 00 02 05 26 03 02 02 00 D2

In theory I think I could make this work. For instance: always operate the blinds with the "home" position as a intermediate step. So either fully closed (0%), then "home", then fully open (100%) and vice versa.

Re: Somfy / Bali Autoview Layered Shades Z-Wave Control

If anybody is interested in developing an indigo plugin for this that is capable of handling multiple blinds in one system I would be happy to donate one blind ($500 value) to the cause (free US shipping). The blind is about 70"x60" and can be hung anywhere - I have one extra and would not need it back.

Re: Somfy / Bali Autoview Layered Shades Z-Wave Control

I just installed 7 of these (Autoview) blinds in my house, adding them to Indigo as Z-wave devices. I can control them via the sliding dimmer control or inputting a value directly. As stated earlier in this thread, that approach is not accurate. Has anyone made any progress with these since the last posting? I'd like to put them on a sunrise/sunset schedule, all opening to the same position. Even being able to send a "home" command would be helpful.

Thanks,

~Mark
