Triggering on "no ack" or device down or the like

I've got a device that's connected to a GFCI circuit. If that circuit pops for some reason, I really want to know about it. I just can't figure out a way to test if the device has gone belly up. There's no specific trigger, but I was hoping there would be some way to schedule a status check of the device and write the time to a variable if it answers, and then I could trigger if some predetermined time has passed since the last update. I can't figure out how to do that. Is there any way to do this in the UI, or maybe with some scripting?

You could use my plugin "Z-wave event and alarm listener" to trigger on no acks, or slow acks
