TKB TZ69E Wall Plug Switch/Meter - GEN5 Module Definition

UpDate 8 Nov 2017 - As of Indigo v7.1.1 the TKB TZ69E is now supported and working without the logging errors reported below

This seems to be identical to the TZ88E except it now has a blue LED instead of a red LED on the front.

I did add it to the Device Report when V7 came out but it still has not been updated so not sure if the report from the GUI is working.

Re: TKB TZ69E Wall Plug Switch/Meter - GEN5 Module Definitio

Hi Clive

I'm having some odd effect with my TKB TZ69E's. It's not an Indigo problem I'm fairly sure about that but did wonder if you could check with your devices to see if they are performing the same as mine or if mine are acting up.
Vesternet are at a loss at the moment.

On static loads no problem but when I use them on any load that fluctuates the devices keep sending out unsolicited power reports. This is despite setting the config parameters for the report period to the max. This can be for as little as 0.5 watt. I have some with FW 2.10 similar to yours and some with 1,10 FW but both behave the same.
So with them all on the network is getting bombarded with unwanted traffic.

Your views would be most appreciated.

I'm having the same problem - doesn't affect all of the TZ69Es - just some

Re: TKB TZ69E Wall Plug Switch/Meter - GEN5 Module Definitio

Neil,
My TZ69E is turning on a 240-12v transformer to power 2 x 12v LED's in the garden at night.
I have the polling set to one hour (not much else to change until it is adopted (hopefully) in 7.0.4)
The log from last night is below.

Yes, providing much better control and/or filtering of log messages is definitely on the feature request list.

Re: TKB TZ69E Wall Plug Switch/Meter - GEN5 Module Definitio

I assume Filtering will only remove from the log not remove it as unwanted traffic from the network? which is more the concern for me.

This is the output log from mine, as you can see its every few seconds, so unless its a static load the TKB socket just keeps generating traffic.

Wow is me :-)

Re: TKB TZ69E Wall Plug Switch/Meter - GEN5 Module Definitio

I thought my Heatit thermostat was bad but that is just plain annoying. When I get back to the UK on 30th I will swap the TZ69E with a TZ88E that controls the Plasma TV as that fluctuates power and i will let you know the results.

Hopefully when 7.0.4 is released it will sort out the problem as the TZ88E can set the time between Watt and KwH reporting intervals and has the "hide status and energy message broadcasts in event log" option that the TZ69E (would be nice to see that added to the Heatit as well!) does not yet have.

But it might not stop the unwanted traffic and add a few of them and some Heatit's plus other badly programmed devices into the equation and it could end up with collisions and congestion slowing down the whole system.

While the settings checkbox option to Hide status and energy message broadcasts in the Event Log requires a device definition for this module, you can in the current version of Indigo still change its Z-Wave configuration settings. Just use the Interfaces->Z-Wave->Modify Configuration Parameter... menu item. If it has the same config settings as the TZ88E, then parameter #1 is the Watt reporting interval (in 5 second increments), and parameter #2 is the kWh reporting interval (in 10 minute increments).

Re: TKB TZ69E Wall Plug Switch/Meter - GEN5 Module Definitio

Just tried changing parameters #1 and #2 but they always revert to a 1 byte value of 1, tried 2 byte value of 2222 and that returned default ( 1:1) when I read it again but doing the same with the TZ88 gave me a value of 2222 when it was re-read and also in the device settings page.
Z-wave seems to be getting more problematic with every firmware update.

Re: TKB TZ69E Wall Plug Switch/Meter - GEN5 Module Definitio

Chaps
I have set the reporting parameters to the maximum with no effect. First thing I tried.

Talking to one of the Tech's at Vesternet and sending him various logs etc. he came back with :

"Thanks for the diagnostics, my only guess is that it's an adaptive algorithm based on some percentage change over time as opposed to a fixed rate - it looks pretty random though."

He did say they hadn't seen this anywhere else BUT he said that he thought Indigo logging gave a greater level of reporting so it could be happening else where.

Clive, be interesting to see what you get on a fluctuating load.

Cheers Chaps.

I don't know if the TZ69E uses the same config parameters as the TZ88 or not. Does the manual for it not specify the configuration parameter details? It is also possible it isn't even a setting that can be modified.

Re: TKB TZ69E Wall Plug Switch/Meter - GEN5 Module Definitio

Neil,
Having now read the manual  parameter 1 is for turning the front led on/off, #2 is for memory function and both are set 0 as default.
Param #3 is for Watt meter report period (byte size 2), unit is 5 sec and default is 720 so it should only report once an hour.
Param #4 is for KwH report period (byte size 2), unit is 10 mins and default is 6 so also reports once an hour.

Changed param #3 to 1 (every 5 secs reporting) and then changed it to 32767 (once a day reporting) and all silent (except for that *&$%(# Heatit !!!

So it seems param 3 & 4 should turn off your constant output with 32767 values, if not then back to Vesternet with it.

Re: TKB TZ69E Wall Plug Switch/Meter - GEN5 Module Definitio

Hi Matt
Thanks for the 7.1 update, but disappointed that the TZ69E didn't get a definition added. Can I check that it is still on the feature request list? I do prefer them over my TZ88Es, but the constant logging is tiresome!
Ben

Re: TKB TZ69E Wall Plug Switch/Meter - GEN5 Module Definitio

Hi Ben,

Yes, it is still on the list. We did get a lot of modules added but still have a lot left. :-)

In the mean time, did you see Clive's post above about modifying the configuration parameters to help reduce the reporting of the TZ88?
