Kwikset Smartcode 916

I was really looking forward to the zwave encryption support in Indigo 7. That is one of the two reasons that I paid for the Indigo 7 update (note, the other hopeful fix was also not delivered, see http://forums.indigodomo.com/viewtopic.php?f=104&t=17218).

My immediate problem is that I'm unable to control my Kwikset Smartcode 916 lock. I am able to add it just fine following the instructions for inclusion, but controlling the lock status from Indigo does not take effect. When I do either "Lock", "Unlock", or "Send Status Request" from Indigo, I see a red light indicator light up on the device, but nothing actually happens. Sometimes, Indigo reports no ACK. Sometimes, Indigo reports that the status was actually updated (it was not).

Here are some logs showing the problem, but they don't seem terribly helpful.

Kwikset Smartcode 916

I'm sure others more knowledgable will chip in - but it looks like you have added the device without encryption.
Without encryption it'll seem to sync - but it won't response to commands - as you are seeing.
Presumably you'll need to resync with encryption (may need to delete and re-add)

There a few forum users with the same lock:

I found with my locks that encryption mode took longer and was more likely to fail depending on distance - but once added (And hand shakes all exchanged) all working well.

Re: Kwikset Smartcode 916

I have this lock and it works fine. I did find syncing it to be a problem at first, but was able to complete it by:
1 making sure I had the latest version of the z-wave plugin. You should look at the other thread referenced here and there's a link to it there.
2 bringing the lock to the computer with the z-stick, partially assembling (i.e., drop in batteries and connect the two sides) it there and then syncing it.
3 making sure the sync (which will take a bit longer than normal z-wave) log shows that there was a successful exchange of encryption keys.

After that I then disassembled the two halves and mounted the lock on the door.

Running Indigo 2023.2 on a 24" iMac M1), OS X 14.4

That means the module wasn't included with encryption on, or the encryption handshake during inclusion failed. So exclude the lock and then try re-including it directly from Indigo with encryption.
