Fibaro Door/Window Sensor FGK101 - extra channel

Hi users of the FGK101, before I buy them to replace old X10 security sensors, can you tell me:

1- can you use the extra channel of the sensor ? is it available in the configuration menu or does it appear as a second device ? it is possible to connect another 'dry contact' on that module, but if it is not handled by Indigo I need to find another solution.

2- what about battery life ? do you really get one year of use ?

Thank you for the help and info !

Patrick

Hi DomoPat,

I have 6 of them; it is a bit of pain to include them as they are battery operated devices but they are very good in reporting status.
I use them for windows and doors, unfortunately I do not use they input (for example, temperature sensor).

I find the battery very good.
For the entry door which is opened/closed many times per day, now it is a 68% and it's there since February, 6 months round about. But windows which report lessare at 90% and they are there since January
It also depends on how often the status report is set (I have it at 4 hrs).

Hope this helps
Bye,
Marco

Thank you Marco, this is good feedback.

In the configuration screen; do you see the possibility for the other input ? (not the temperature sensor, but the 'dry contact' input.).

Thank you,

Patrick

Re: Fibaro Door/Window Sensor FGK101 - extra channel

Hello Patrick,

I've tested (and use) a lot of different brands door/window sensors and by far the FGK101 is the best of the world (at this moment :-) )

- including proces is sometimes a tough job

+ transmission distance is perfect
+ battery live is the best, (68% after a year)
+ the extra channel for a separate contact works good (or it can be use for a temp sensor, not both!)

Kind regards,

John

Re: Fibaro Door/Window Sensor FGK101 - extra channel

Hi Patrick,
I use the FGK101 to:
  • Detect my side door opening using the magnetic sensor
  • Detect my garage door opening using the IN (potential free input)
As others have said, battery life is excellent and device is reliable :)

The magnet and IN (potential free input) are seen as the same device in Indigo i.e. AFAIK it is not possible to differentiate between the two separate inputs - either operating will trigger the Door/Window sensor in Indigo. The tamper alarm is seen as a separate device.

Hope this helps :)

This is the deal breaker for me ! I need the device to report the magnet and Aux input separately, like the X10-DS10 security device does today: I have one at each window reporting both the window opening and blind opening through two different devices in Indigo.

The FGK101 looks like a very good door sensor, I will use it for other application but my quest for a wireless-double-input ZWave device continues !

Thanks for all the good feedback everyone provided.

Patrick

Or you can use 2 x FGK101 :-)

Just thinking off the top of my head, could you not use the Fibaro universal sensor. I think that has multiple inputs. It's not as clean as the proper door/window sensors but could be an option.

The Fibaro universal sensor. could be an option, but the battery life is probably very bad... and with 6 devices I will be ruined before I realize it !

Yeah I temporarily ran a universal sensor on a 12v 7ah alarm battery for about 3 weeks before it gave out.

The Fibaro Universal Sensor isn't a battery operated device by design which of course drains battery quickly if you decide to feed it from a battery.
I have three mains powered (with power adapter of course  ) fed from UPS powered outlets.

Exactly! I use the 12v power from my alarm system to power mine, seemed the easiest and most elegant solution at the time :)

Very old thread, but I am interested in how you connected the garage door to the free input
My idea is to use an automatic switch which will be opened/closed by the garage door and this will send the input to the Fibaro Door/Window Sensor.

Or how did you do it?

Thanks
Marco

Re: Fibaro Door/Window Sensor FGK101 - extra channel

Hi Marko,
Take a look at this post: http://forums.indigodomo.com/viewtopic.php?p=85151

I have now replaced the Fiabaro with this device: Z-Wave Vision Door & Window Sensor - Gen5 (I think mine might be the previous non-Gen5 version - not sure without checking and it is installed in a difficult place to get to. ) :)

The Vision was a lot simpler to include/exclude than the Fibaro.
