Vision Shock Sensor ZS5101US

Just submitted device information, shows as a binary sensor and works fine out of the box. The indigo devices page on/off button doesn't work and I'm used to a separate tamper switch populating when a device has one. This sensor did not populate a tamper switch. The device looks just like the garage door tilt sensor and has a manually adjustable rheostat for the shock sensor sensitivity and after being vibrated to the on position it automatically turns itself off after 10 seconds of no vibration. There is a normally closed set of inputs you can attached to an external switch for magnetic window contacts. The description leads you to believe its hears glass breaking but I think that is poor translation of the vibration feature.

I also didn't couldn't find this device submission. Can you re-submit and fill out the online forum as completely as possible. A copy/paste of the Event Log define/sync into the forum here will also help me figure out how to create the best model definition for it. Thanks.

Does this device work with Indigo? I am in a bad way. My WiFi vibration sensor failed and are not made any longer. I have been waiting more than a year for the MS6. I have to do something. Either Vision Shock Sensor or any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

One possibility would be to use the Embedded Data Systems 1-Wire Server and the OW-VIB Vibration Sensor. A bit of up-front expense, but 1-Wire opens up a world of possibilities.

Re: Vision Shock Sensor ZS5101US

Thanks very much for the reply. Looks like a bit of overkill for my particular application. With the WiFi option, which I would need, the two devices would be more than $200. The Vision shock sensor would be much less expensive, if it works with Indigo.

Re: Vision Shock Sensor ZS5101US

Very true. It's a lot of horsepower (and cost) for just one application, but it allows for a lot of extensibility.

Re: Vision Shock Sensor ZS5101US

This device works great with Indigo...my initial experiment was for my shed in my back yard and it worked so well I replaced my open close sensor on my mailbox with a Monoprice version which you can get very cheap (same device) http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=11988 . Sign up for Monoprice deals and they always have a 20% off coupon. The tamper portion of the device does not currently work with Indigo.

Re: Vision Shock Sensor ZS5101US

This thread is old but I wanted to follow-up that Indigo 7.0 is now available (has been for a while). It adds supports for dozens of new Z-Wave devices, including the Vision Shock and Vibration Sensor (ZS5101) as well as several other Vision models.

Re: Vision Shock Sensor ZS5101US

I have a few questions regarding the ZS5101 and its support with Indigo 7.

I am really interested in a vibration sensor and the ZS5101 seems to be the sensor of choice but the first thing is that the ZS5101 dose not seem to be a Z-Wave Gen-5 device however it looks like there is now a later device being the ZS5101-5 which does look like it is Gen-5 so my question is is the ZS5101-5 device supported with Indigo 7?

Secondly if the ZS5101-5 is supported with Indigo 7 then it would be useful to know if the optional outputs that allow door switches to be used will work.

Anyone that has actually used a ZS5101-5 in their system would be ideal in terms of providing this information.

Thanks in advance.

Steve

Re: Vision Shock Sensor ZS5101US

Hi, I just got two of these and encountered a problem:

When the sensors are triggered they send and off message after a while. But immediately after the off message Indigo registers an on message, the result being that Indigo constantly reports the sensors as being on. When the sensor is triggered and then, after a while, turns off this is what the log looks like:

Z-Wave received "Shock sensor" status update is on
Z-Wave received "Shock sensor" status update is off
Z-Wave received "Shock sensor" status update is on

And to ad to the confusion: After fiddling a lot with the sensors (re-syncing, re-including and so on) I got one of them to work properly. (I have no idea what did it.) But no matter what I do with the other one, the problem persists. Any ideas?

Re: Vision Shock Sensor ZS5101US

Turn on Indigo's Z-Wave Debug Logging checkbox via the Interfaces->Z-Wave->Configure... menu item, then capture what you have above again (initial ON, expected follow-up OFF, and mystery ON) in the Event Log for us.

Re: Vision Shock Sensor ZS5101US

Matt, thanks for responding so quickly. Here is the log; Shock sensor 1 being the one working properly, Shock sensor 2 is the one behaving strangely. Here the first is triggered, and after it has sent its off signal the other one is triggered.

Turns out that both the on and the off signals from the latter are reported in Indigo as an off message followed by an on message:
