Aeon Z-stick Gen5

Just got this from Aeon Labs support :D

To my surprise, the Z-Stick Gen5 is actually available now. I am trying to confirm the model number and which resellers may be selling it now.

Matt/Jay, do you know if this is using the same driver/API/commands as the Z-stick 2, hence already supported in Indigo or will you have to add support?

Will add more information to the thread when I get it from Aeon.

Re: Aeon Z-stick Gen5

More information:

The bad news, it isn't being sold yet because of the holiday season in China (~3 weeks), once Chinese New Years holiday is over, the Z-Stick Gen5 will be readily available.

The good news, selling the Z-Stick Gen5 is right around the corner and the resellers will carry them sometimes early March to middle of March.

The model number for the Z-Stick Gen5 is:

US: ZW092-A;
EU:ZW092-C;
AU:ZW092-B

Re: Aeon Z-stick Gen5

And yet some more information...

I am unsure about the backup capability in this version, i will find out more, I threw in the suggestion when the development of the Z-Stick Gen5 was in place, I am unsure if it took or not. I'll find out more and let you know if i find out.

There is an added function for detecting network quality

Re: Aeon Z-stick Gen5

Thanks for the information.

In theory I believe it should work with Indigo, but we won't know for sure until we get our hands on it. Let us know if you hear back about the backup capability.

Re: Aeon Z-stick Gen5

That is terrific. I've contacted them to get the technical details for it.

I've also read it is backwards compatible, so in theory Indigo shouldn't have any problem using it. We need to get one in-house to verify this is the case though, of course.

Re: Aeon Z-stick Gen5

Update from Aeon about release date:

I haven't gotten a response, but multiple software developers and gateway developers have them on hand already for testing, so they should be available towards the end of this month. This includes the backup software and the health detection software.

Re: Aeon Z-stick Gen5

Got mine Yesterday - Leaving town for a week so will not be able to set it up and test. What are people using to back up and restore the network or is this something that is not possible with the z-stick 2 and will be available in the new gene 5 z-stick.

Re: Aeon Z-stick Gen5

Is there a way to copy all the devices from my Z-Stick 2 to the Z-Stick Gen5 ? I got the new stick on its way and I think it will arrive tomorrow.

Re: Aeon Z-stick Gen5

I can confirm that the new Z-Stick Gen5 is working like a charm.
Just did the swap in my system. One heck of a job to add all my devices and "define and sync" all devices inside Indigo 6

To get it to work you need to change the serialport in the config to "usbmodem". This stick do not require a driver to be installed. OSX got it native installed.

So.. now I'm ready for some backup features in Indigo.... ;) *wink wink*

Re: Aeon Z-stick Gen5

Thanks for taking the leap. Did you notice if the syncing process was any faster than the old stick? How many devices did you have to re-sync?

Just wanted to confirm your steps per Matt's instructions...
Without the backup functionality you will put the Z-Stick (either the old one or the new one) into exclusion mode then you'll exclude all your modules, then re-include them with the new Z-Stick, then define/sync them in Indigo (making sure you get the correct node ID selected).

1. Delete each device from the old stick.
2. Install new Gen 5 stick.
3. Re-sync each device with new stick (assume a new node is assigned).
4. Pick new node and define and sync.

Did you have to re-define your triggers and schedules with the new nodes or is that automatic?

Re: Aeon Z-stick Gen5

The sync seems a bit faster actually. I didn't add the devices in the same order as the old stick so I had to add and sync 35 devices (mostly Fibaro dim and relay modules)
Everything is working very well. I'm not sure, but I think the range is better to. With the old stick I had some hazzel when I added devices (during the sync).
Didn't have ONE glitch during the sync this time :)

The only problem I got after swapping the stick is my NorthQ power meter. I'm able to add it but it do not update the readings. It could be the first 1 hour wake up that is the problem.
I'll know in... 10 minutes or something :P
