SNMP?

What SNMP information does Smartphone Radar use? I was thinking it would be clever to watch the router's arp table via SNMP for the presence of the phones, since that will be live whenever the phones do anything at all, even if it doesn't create a connection outside of the local network.

Re: SNMP?

check the discussion on apple airport dropping snmp and FING.
Fing on a mac works very well. Gets detailed and reliable info on ip numbers (up/down/changed/expired) in your local network

Re: SNMP?

Thanks for the pointer. Having read that, I'm not sure Fing is something I want to run; I really want to rely on passive monitoring, rather than waking up devices. Also, I'd like to keep a limit on the proprietary/closed-source software I use in this system.

Since my access point (running DD-WRT, not an Apple device) does have the ARP table in SNMP, I think it would make sense to use that. So my original question still stands - what is Smartphone Radar looking for at present?

Re: SNMP?

Fing actually listens to any icmp traffic, pretty neat, you should try it.
finds a device within seconds if it comes alive i.e. any IP traffic.
If an iPhone is disconnected, ping does not reach it / wake it up anyway.
