If they supply an API that would be a really great addition to Indigo.

Hi,

I think IrrigationCaddy has a HTTP REST API

http://irrigationcaddy.com/blog/?p=55
http://sourceforge.net/p/irrigationcli/code/14/tree/

Because it is pure HTTP, a "reverse ingeneering" could be done using Fiddler or "Chrome's developers tools"

I've seen that. Unfortunately, building something to an unpublished and unofficially supported "api" is usually a recipe for heartburn down the road. We actually contacted them about an API last year and were told that they didn't have one and didn't plan on releasing an "official" one. Seemed pretty short-sighted to me but it's their product.

The real problem, as I see it, with the current generation of network-based controllers (the EtherRain has a documented API) is that they aren't WiFi and I suspect that the vast majority of people that would want to use them probably don't have wired ethernet running to the location where the controller is. We have at least one user who does but my guess is that's a pretty low number. When (if?) one comes along with WiFi and a documented and supported API then (given other priorities) I'd love to jump all over it.

Jay,

Thanks for your answer.
I understand your worry about not documented API.
And I don't understand "IrrigationCaddy" about lost opportunities not openning their product to third party.
Today, open connectivity is half of one product's goodies.

About WIFI:
In my case, I would not be able to run Cat5 wire to connect the IP-Sprinkler-control.
I will use an "Ubiquiti Nanostation M2 LoCo". These devices are wonderful. About 50 USD
They can act as wifi client, wifi access point, wifi bridge, etc ...
They are for exterior.
They are POE, so they can be installed more than 50 meters away from the power plug in.
You can build long distance wifi connections. 1 mile, in my case.

Hey! I don't earn my money selling this devices! :-)

(I am sorry about my bad english)

Hi,

I represent IrrigationCaddy and I wanted to let you know that the API is actually not closed, it is just not published on the site, but we do welcome integration with other products. The API is very stable, and it will not change in a way that will make it incompatible with existing apps. In fact we have developed our own iPhone and Android apps which rely on the API and so we are planning to maintain the APIs in a way that would make it as painless as possible to maintain those apps, or any software written that relies on them.

If you decide to do some sort of integration let us know if you have any questions, and we will be glad to help.

Thanks

I'm glad that you guys have changed your mind concerning the API - as I said above I was told at that time that the API wasn't official nor documented. Any thoughts on a WiFi version?

Perhaps one of our 3rd party developers will jump on this opportunity.

Thanks

works nicely, can start a program remotely.. very nice job

Karl

ps if the rain sensor is "wet =isRaining" on the irrigation caddy system it will not run a program! I guess that is on purpose.

Apparently they heard you!

"The IrrigationCaddy IC-W1 (IC) device is a WiFi enabled web based irrigation control system."
