Dongle for headless operation on Mac Pro

I'm getting a used Mac Pro (2010 dual quad-core) to use as my Security Spy system. On my Mac mini I use an HDMI headless dongle to make sure that the graphics card is working for acceptable Screen Sharing performance. The Pro has a DVI port and I think some Display Ports. Anyone have any experience with using these headless? What do I need?

I haven't owned a Mac Pro type machine since the Bondi Blue one, whatever it was called. Power Mac G3?

Thanks!

Something like this should do the trick plugged into one on the display ports:

Or you could go the DVI route:
