Control iTunes from an X10 device

Just found the Indigo page today.

After reading the posts that mention iTunes, Im looking for a way to have an X10 device send commands back through Indigo and have it control iTunes.
Need to have a simple switch set up in several rooms in a house, that can talk back to a Mac with iTunes playing.

Perhaps certain addresses on an X10 multiple switch like KeyPadLinc or a simple transmitter base/keypad combo could send signals back through the PowerLink USB and into Indigo.
From there ? Apple scrips assigned to each address on the switches.
One to run a play list ?
Start, stop ?

Any ideas ?

Re: Control iTunes from an X10 device

I think you've got the right approach here. Create new Trigger Actions, one per remote button, and then use AppleScript to send iTunes commands.

Take a look at the iTunes attachment script inside your user/Documents/Indigo User Data/Scripts/Attachments/ folder. It uses a different technique that doesn't require creating Trigger Actions. Instead, it listens to the commands as they come from the interface. That script only works with an MR26/W800RF32 and X10's Entertainment Anywhere remote control, which can produce the avType X10 RF commands (normal palm pad remotes don't generate these types of X10 commands).

You probably will not want to use this approach, but instead just create Trigger Actions for each button. But the AppleScript code for communicating with iTunes inside the attachment script might come in handy.

Regards,
Matt
