Automatic Backup Plugin

I saw on your website a plugin you made to automatically backup the Indigo library (http://www.schollnick.net/wordpress/hom ... iguration/), but there’s no link to the file.. is this still a live plugin or have you killed it off?

Computer says no.

Not a problem. I have to go back through the blog and update the download links, since I disabled Download Monitor...

Most of them have more up to date links, which point to my Dropbox links, but the backup plugin didn't....
So thanks for pointing that out...

Re: Automatic Backup Plugin

The backup plugin is an excellent idea. I have installed it, but found that it backs up to the documents folder on the same computer where I have Indigo. Have you considered a configuration option to allow the user to specify where they would like the backup to be placed? For example, I would like to put the backup in one of Dropbox folders so it syncs to other computers of mine. Also, is there a Restore plugin to retrieve and replace a bad database?

A customizable path?

Sure, that should be easy enough.

From past experience, an automated restore would be questionable.

My recommendation for restoration would be:

1) Unzip the automated archive, and place it in the proper location, e.g. /Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/Indigo xxx
2) Run the latest Indigo Installer

The issue is that I can't guarantee the proper permissions on some of the Indigo files, and the Indigo installer will correct those permissions.

That should be it.

Anyone that would like to test a newer version of the Backup Plugin, I have a v1.00 build that I would like you to try.
It includes, a customizable path, optional automated scheduling of backups.

Drop me an email at Benjamin AT schollnick dot net.

When the plugin is started, it will perform a backup of the Indigo system, and then will "sleep" until the next scheduled backup time. So if the server is stopped and restarted, the plugin will then create another backup, and then sleep again. So it is quite possible that your scheduling may drift.

For example,

If I start the server on 1/1/2013, and I have a 14 day schedule. You would expect the next backup to be on 1/15/2013.

But if I stop Indigo's server, and restart it on 1/5/2013, the next backup would occur on the 1/5/2013, and the next scheduled will be on 1/19/2013.

The same issue will occur with a manual backup.

The scheduled backups are offset from the last created backup.

If there is a desire for these to be absolute backup date / times, I can look into enhancing the plugin for this, but I think the offsets are adequate at this time.
