[ANSWERED] Moving Indigo to new Mac

Sorry if this is posted somewhere but i couldn't find it. I am moving Indigo from its current Mac to another machine. Can someone outline which files/folders I need to move? Thanks.

Sure... Instructions are here, http://www.schollnick.net/wordpress/hom ... iguration/

The easiest method to backup & transfer your Indigo (version 4) configuration to another machine is as follows:

1. Backup the /Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/. The method I suggest is to use the built-in compression tools, by going to the /Library/Application Support folder, and right clicking on Perceptive Automation. Then choose Compress “Perceptive Automation”.
2. Take the zip file, and transfer it to the new computer, along with the latest Indigo Installer.
3. Uncompress the Perceptive Automation folder into the /Library/Application Support folder on the new computer
4. Install Indigo on the new computer.
5. If you have an W800Rf32A, you will need to install the KeySpan Drive (or equivalent) driver…
6. Start Indigo on the new machine, and File -> Open and choose your Indigo Database.
7. Check your preferences, and ensure that everything is running correctly…

I have used this process multiple times, and have not run into any real issues…

Re: Moving Indigo to new Mac

If you're using a 2412/2413 you'll also need to install the FTDI driver as well.

FYI, the Indigo Manual also specifies how to do it, although Benjamin's process works as well. The only real trick is making sure that you save and manually restore any customization you've done to the built-in scripts - using his process will cause all of the built-in scripts to be reset.

This process is going to get somewhat easier in 5.0, btw... ;)

Nope, except to say it is still a very long ways out (several months).

Updated.....

Any suggestions for other modifications? Or a "Official" process that I can link to as an alternative?

Re: Moving Indigo to new Mac

The only "official" documentation is what's at the bottom of this section of the manual. The important point here is that some people modify the built-in scripts (sometimes just to configure them) - so, if you run the installer on top of an existing install, it's going to overwrite those changes (but only for built-in scripts). I've been trying to move any configuration for the built-in scripts into variables rather than editing the scripts themselves but I'm pretty sure I haven't done it for all of them (another 5.0 task).

No, not really, unless you include a Indigo v5 plugin to do the backup task.
---------------------------
What is the Backup Plugin?

The Backup plugin will literally backup your Indigo directory (/Library/Application Support/Indigo 5), and store it in a time/date stamped zip file, that is stored in ~/Documents/Indigo Backup.

Currently, this is a manual process. Choose "Perform a Manual Backup" from the Plugin Menu, or use a Trigger Action to cause a backup to occur. If there is interest, I may add a schedule feature to the plugin.

Installation

1) Open the "Add to Plugin Directory" folder, and take the Backup.indigoPlugin and place it into

/Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/Indigo 5/Plugins

2) Restart the Indigo 5 Server

3) After the Indigo server restarts, the Plugin will be useable.

Support:

For issues or questions, please contact Benjamin@schollnick.net.

The official web page for the Backup Plugin, is at http://www.schollnick.net/wordpress/hom ... iguration/ any updates will be documented there or at my blog at http://www.schollnick.net/wordpress.

Re: Moving Indigo to new Mac

We didn't get everything done for plugin bundles that we'd hoped to for this first Indigo 5 release, so manually moving scripts and images is still required. We hope to have user-added items more encapsulated/isolated in some future version so that it's a bit easier.

However, it's really not hard when you follow the directions linked to above. Not to mention that it's not something that people should need to do very frequently.

Re: Moving Indigo to new Mac

So I have a slightly different problem. I have been running Indigo 4 from my MacBook using Snow Leopard. I recently got a new iMac with Lion. I used the Mac transfer to a new computer setup to move all my files. When I did that it would not let me transfer from my username on the MacBook to the same username on the iMac so I had to create a new user name on the iMac. When I tried to open Indigo on the iMac I got a notice that I needed to open it with an adminsitrator's account. My new username is an administrator's account. I checked with Apple and they confirmed that I had to have a new username on the iMac and the process I followed was the correct one. I have not been able to find anywhere in Indigo 4 on my MacBook where I can list the authorized administrative accounts. What do I need to do to correct this situation and get Indigo 4 running on my iMac?

When you migrate, you don't need to have a new username...

What happened is that you already created the same user account on the new system. And the migration utility can't overwrite the user that is being used.... That's why you had to create a new username...

If you delete the current user, and make a temporary account (eg. Migration), you'll be able to bring over your existing account from the old system without a problem.... (I do user migrations all the time.... it's part of my job....)

The indigo issue is probably a permissions based issue, which Matt & Jay will have to assist with....

Re: Moving Indigo to new Mac

For Indigo to run you need to modify the folder/file owner and permissions for this folder and all sub folders/files:

Code: Select all
/Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/Indigo 4/

so that the user under which you are launching Indigo has read and write access. You can either try to do that manually, or you can reinstall Indigo 4.

Re: Moving Indigo to new Mac

Old thread revival!

Version 6, moving to a new Mac. New Mac has Mavericks on it too (previous was Mountain Lion). Any tips? Sounds like I don't need to load the FTDI driver. I'm getting the current system up to the latest software release right now (6.0.12).
