Lights won't go out!?

I programmed Indigo to send X10 signals to 2 switches for outside lights 7 days a week. The first is to turn them on at sunset, which it did flawlessly. The second signal was programmed to turn them off at 12:00am. The lights were still on in the morning. For whatever it's worth, I can manually turn the lights on and off manually using Indigo. The log for this device is below:

1:43:57 PM, 5/4/04
Time/Date Action _internal_sunrise_
Time/Date Action Outside Lights OFF
Sent X10 "Outside Lights" off

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Re: Lights won't go out!?

Hi Adam,

Something is not correct with that log snippet you posted. Did you maybe remove one of the time stamps in the log when you were copying and pasting it? Based on that log snippet above, it shows that the sunrise event occurred at 1:44PM, which doesn't sound quite right.

I'd be interested in seeing all the log entries (with the time stamps) for the device "Outside Lights."

Complete log for Outside Lights

Matt,

I'm as clueless as you. Below is the complete log for "Outside Lights." For whatever this is worth, I programmed 2 new on off commands for specific times 1 minute apart and the lights went on and off. Also, even after deleting the correct time/date action settings for those lights, the next action field shows that somethings going to happen at 7:55pm which is sunset, yet nothing is programmed!? Any ideas?

1:43:57 PM, 5/4/04 Time/Date Action _internal_sunrise_
1:43:57 PM, 5/4/04 Time/Date Action Outside Lights OFF
1:43:59 PM, 5/4/04 Sent X10 "Outside Lights" off
2:10:00 PM, 5/4/04 Time/Date Action new time/date trigger
2:10:02 PM, 5/4/04 Sent X10 "Outside Lights" on
2:11:00 PM, 5/4/04 Time/Date Action new time/date trigger copy
2:11:02 PM, 5/4/04 Sent X10 "Outside Lights" off
2:22:26 PM, 5/4/04 Application Starting Indigo version 1.2.1
2:22:31 PM, 5/4/04 Application Launching Attachments
2:22:31 PM, 5/4/04 Application Loading "iTunes attachment.scp" (script)
2:22:34 PM, 5/4/04 Application Connected to SmartHome PowerLinc USB
2:22:34 PM, 5/4/04 Application PowerLinc firmware version 1.4

Thanks again.

Re: Complete log for Outside Lights

Is the computer going to sleep at any point? Indigo cannot wake the computer when a Trigger or Time/Date Action occurs, so you must leave your computer awake. You can still have the monitor/display go to sleep, however.

The next action will always show the time of the next sunset and sunrise events. Even if you have not added any Time/Date Actions there is still an internal action that must trigger at sunset and sunrise to update internal states and variables.

Any quick idea how to make only the monitor/display go to sleep? What you're saying makes a lot of sense. I was physically using the computer when sunset occurred and the lights went on. The off time however was midnight. I haven't spoken to the client yet, but I'm almost sure that it was sleeping. I'll let you know. Thanks again.

Matt,

That was it! I found the settings and set the sleep to never. I guess that would also explain why there was nothing in the log.

Thanks again!

Glad we found it. By the way, there is now a beta of Indigo 1.5 that supports uploading schedules and control logic to Smarthome's new PowerLinc Controller (1132CU):

With this new PowerLinc, you can turn Indigo and your computer off and still have basic home control.

Regards,
Matt
