Apple changed iTunes 11 and how it shows a remote that's trying to pair. I've updated the Creating an iTunes Server Device docs to reflect the change.

Jay -- I'm also having trouble. I have the latest version of Indigo and iTunes. the iTunes Server and the Indigo Server are on different host but both are in my local network. I followed your instructions and I can can see the plugin trying to pair but it fails. I have attached the log file.

Many thanks,
Andres

Is this iTunes on the same Mac as the Indigo Server? If so, then you've got multiple active IP addresses which causes issues with Bonjour. This can be caused by having both the LAN and WiFi networks active at the same time, or perhaps by virtual machine software like Parallels or VMware.

Jay,

The Indigo and the iTunes servers are actually in two different machines (non virtual). They each have their own IP address. Problem seems to be no acknowledgment on the Indigo Server that the iTunes Server has accepted the 0000 code.

Thanks,
Andres

We ignore the code validation. The fact remains however that iTunes is responding on two different IP addresses. Does that Mac have both WiFi and a wired ethernet cable active? Having both active on a client Mac produces unpredictable results and is not recommended.

Jay -- I got this to work! It was a network problem. There must I rebooted both machines and let them acquired new IP addresses. I also reloaded the plugin modules for the iTunes Device. It's working perfectly now. It's hard to keep up with all of the enviromental changes across apps and devices but you and this community and doing great work documenting it all for the rest of us.

I am still on Indigo 5, and I can't get iTunes control to work.
I set up a trigger with an Actions - Plugin - iTunes - Action - Play
Then a new bar shows up saying Device, and there is nothing I can do with that.
Upon execution I get:

iTunes Sync iTunes is not responding (check iTunes for open modal dialogs)
iTunes Sync current track 'The Winner Takes It All (1980)'

I have also tried the Embeded script:

tell application "iTunes"
play
end tell

which doesn't work. I get:
Script Error embedded script: invalid syntax
Script Error around line 1 - "tell application "iTunes""

Any solution?

Ignore my previous message. I forgot to pair... and when trying to pair, iTunes crashes (when entering the 4digit code). I'll restart the machine and try again.
Is there any incompatibility between Indigo 5 and iTunes 11? I am on Mavericks.

Edit: Even after a reboot of the machine iTunes crash as soon as the 4digit code has been entered :-(

Unfortunately, that part of the process has nothing to do with Indigo so something is wrong with iTunes.

Yes, that sounds logical.
I installed the 10.9.4 Combu update, still the same problem though :-(
I will try to remove iTunes, and install it again...

Edit:
I did some testing...
I have Indigo 5.1.10 running on a Mac mini Core2Duo 2.66 GHz with 4 GB RAM, running mavericks 10.9.4 and Server app.
I have iTunes 11.3 running on Mac mini Core2Duo 2.4 GHz with 8 GB RAM, running mavericks 10.9.4.
When entering the 4digit code iTunes crash within a few seconds.
Removing the iTunes.app directory, installing the 10.9.4 combo update, reinstalling iTunes, same result.

Trying on the Indigo computer, iTunes crash there too.
Trying on my 2.4 GHz machine logged in as a Guest, iTunes crash...

So do you think it will help to upgrade to Indigo 6? I know Apple has changed iTunes 11, so maybe Indigo 5 doesn't work then? But it shouldn't crash, but that could be an Apple bug...
