Sensor data not received by RFXrec

I have 5 Oregon Scientific sensors, three temp/humidity in crawl spaces, one temp/humidity outside and a rain gauge, all put in within the last few months. Once positioned within range of the RFX receiver, they have all worked well. However, since Tuesday two of them have stopped being recorded by RFX. They are actually the two closest to the receiver so it is unlikely to be a signal issue. I tried reinstalling RFXrec and changing the device ID and saving, changing back, as well as unplugging the RFXrec device. No luck, and I doubt these two would have failed simultaneously. Any ideas?

What do you see in the event log?
You have to switch on 'enable debug logging' in the configuration of the Plugin.

Looks like the RFXrec is only picking up 3 of the 5 sensors. Hard to believe two new sensors would fail at the same time but I guess I need to check them when I get back....

So I went down into the crawl space and fetched one of the temp/humidity sensors; brought it up and it connected immediately to the RFXCOM. The battery level is "10". Nothing wrong at all. So that makes me wonder why it all of a sudden would stop being received? Should I just get an antenna and forget about it? Or is there something up with the RFXCOM, which otherwise seems to be behaving normally?

Of course now, having spent the effort to observe, troubleshoot, post etc, they are updating as normal without any changes to the system.... In fact, while I did bring up the "Family" sensor to definitely within range of the RFXCOM, I didn't touch the "Main" sensor, which came back on line totally by itself and now shows the strongest signal strength of any of the sensors.

Oh well, the miracles of technology. Maybe I'll get an antenna anyway.

The sensors have a STR =5. This is on the edge... 4 is absolutely to low and a minimum of 6-7 is recommended.

To increase the receiving range you can connect for example a http://www.conrad.com order nr 190073 433MHz ground plane antenna with BNC coax cable,
Or a http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... PerPage=60 scanner antenna. This antenna needs a coax cable with PL-259 and SMA or BNC connector.

The location of the sensor and the RFXCOM is also important if the RF signal has to pass through walls. See chapter 2.4 in the RFXtrx User Guide

It is expected that RF interference is happening if sensor signals disappear for several hours. RF interference will occur if sensors of the same type are configured to the same channel.

If sensors disappear for a longer period the source can be another transmitter that is transmitting continuously or with short intervals. If X10 MS13 sensors are in use check the battery in this sensor because when the battery becomes almost empty the MS13 starts transmitting a weak continuous RF signal but just enough to disturb the sensitive RFXCOM receiving.

It does look like a signal issue; surprising though that the two sensors that stopped working have STR of 6 and 7, and the others, which are lower, behaved just fine.

I don't have any X10 RF devices, but do have some AcuRite sensors which are still installed. AFAIK they are not received by the RFXrec, but could they cause interference months after the install?

I'm in the same boat with my Oregon Scientific Rain Gauge. Last season it worked as it should. I brought the Rain Gauge in for the winter. Now when I put it out the RFXrec and Rain Gauge show they are connected but no data is sent over. Battery level is at 10. My RFXrec is in the basement but like i said last year it worked fine. Had a decent rain shower last night and no data was recorded. Signal Strength bounces between 6-7. I brought the rain gauge inside and put it right next to the RFXrec and it only shows a strength of 7.

I should add that it does do periodic updates as the date and time are reflected. The only data that is delivered is the rainfall total. But it's always at 9.72 inches.
