Indigo controllable power strip

(Note for anyone reading in future - this thread is split off from a thread in the main forums before I wrote this plugin)

If I can see what it's doing with those 4 I should be able to pull all 6; I've just never done multiple endpoints before so I need a bit of guidance from the log.

Should be a simple job as far as I can think.

Re: Indigo controllable power strip

Ok, great, I've decoded all that lot and believe I understand it.

Can you list what's plugged into the 6 sockets, 1-6?

Am I right in thinking ESX2 is plugged into socket 1, and ESX3 is plugged into socket 2, both of which are unswitchable from Indigo?

Re: Indigo controllable power strip

On the strip, outlets #1 & 2 are the unswitchable ones, but they do report energy use. Outlets 3-6 are the switchable ones.

Physical Outlet 1 has a Cisco Catalyst 2960G plugged into it. It is not listed in Indigo since it is not controllable
Physical Outlet 2 is EMPTY
Physical Outlet 3 is ESXi 02 and is in Indigo as Outlet 1
Physical Outlet 4 is ESXi 03 and is in Indigo as Outlet 2
Physical Outlet 5 is Mac Pro and is in Indigo as Outlet 3
Physical Outlet 6 is 24-bay RAID and is in Indigo as Outlet 4

Where it is off is energy reporting...in Indigo you see:
Outlet 1 - ESXi 02 reporting 60.588 W which is actually the power consumed by Physical Outlet #1 - Cisco 2960G
Outlet 2- ESXi 03 reporting 0 W which is actually the EMPTY Physical Outlet #2
Outlet 3 - Mac Pro reporting 196.658 W which is actually the power consumed by Physical Outlet #3 - ESXi 02
Outlet 4 - Mac Pro reporting 189.972 W which is actually the power consumed by Physical Outlet #4 - ESXi 03

Physical outlets 5-6 energy is the missing info...it's a matter of Energy reporting 7 items...1 total and Physical Outlets 1-6, but indigo only has 5 devices...master switch and physical outlets 3-6 that ID as 1-4.

Here it is in a chart type form:
Code: Select all
Phsyical   Indigo      Energy
Master     All Outlets Total Energy
Outlet 1   <none>      Outlet 1
Outlet 2   <none>      Outlet 2
Outlet 3   Outlet 1    Outlet 3
Outlet 4   Outlet 2    Outlet 4
Outlet 5   Outlet 3    Outlet 5 <not in Indigo>
Outlet 6   Outlet 4    Outlet 6 <not in Indigo>

Does that help?

Re: Indigo controllable power strip

Ah right.

Yeah, I think I confused myself but I do know what's happening.

Can you try sending a raw zwave command (Interfaces > ZWave > Send raw command):

0x60 0x0D 0x01 0x05 0x32 0x01 0x00 0x25 (they're all zero's)
then after a few seconds
0x60 0x0D 0x01 0x05 0x32 0x01 0x10 0x25

I think that should be requesting the power consumption in kWh and W of endpoint 5 (which is socket 1).

You should get back:

01 18 00 04 00 49 0C 60 0D 01 05 32 02 21 64 ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## (this is the kWh used since last reset, time since you last asked, and previous kWh value)
01 12 00 04 00 49 0C 60 0D 01 05 32 02 21 74 ## ## ## ## ## (this is the current power in w)

Re: Indigo controllable power strip

Excellent.

That's 219.601w from socket 1 (endpoint 5)

I'll knock it up into a Power Logging plugin for you.

Re: Indigo controllable power strip

Cool...a plugin that could pull the 6 outlets consumption and the totals for the strip would rock...I mainly got it for power monitoring since none of those devices are ever switched off.

Thanks!

Re: Indigo controllable power strip

Right, give this plugin a try.

It provides for up to 8 sockets per power strip, but will only populate the ones that it receives info for.

Create a ZWave Power Logger device and point it at one of your Aeon power strip devices (doesn't matter which socket device, it's only finding out the node ID from it).

Then watch the states populate as it receives energy notifications.

There's two Actions which request Total and Individual usage - not sure if Total works or not, but it doesn't matter if it doesn't because whenever individual ones are received it just recalculates the total anyway!

I've been testing this against my Greenwave power strip which isn't the most reliable as it refuses to send updates if it hasn't changed since last time it sent you one. (That's "by design")

Adding a screenshot of the power readings it has...shows #4 as zero but it should be pulling 190w-200w since it's a dual-CPU Precision like outlet #3

Re: Indigo controllable power strip

That log doesn't tie up with that screenshot...

You can ignore all the "Format: 64" sections as that's the kWh energy reports.

I suspect in the time it took you to copy/paste the log and prepare the screenshot, you received some more "Format: 74" sections which are the wattage energy reports.

If you still haven't received socket 4 data I need to see what the format 74's show.

I've just uploaded 1.0.1 which strips some of the logging out (and also allows you to turn on/off debugging in plugin config!)

Eventually I will decode the format bytes in the plugin - I can decode on paper but I've not coded the decoding of it yet - then filter out the logs to only wattage or kWh depending what users choose - I'll add more config to the device when I get to that.

Re: Indigo controllable power strip

So I'm a little confused...I took a screenshot right after the refresh interval I have on the power strip and matched up the values from your plugin...

Still only 4 of 6 sockets show non-zero numbers when it should be 5.
Total doesn't have a match in the log...and socket3 reads the low number that should match socket1
socket2 should be zero, socket3 should be around 200w as should socket4 based on the hardware powered by it.

see attachment

Thanks Ross

Re: Indigo controllable power strip

That Log is Indigo’s native logging which we know doesn’t match up; turn debug on in my plugin (since 1.0.1) to get back to what you saw from my plugin earlier.

Re: Indigo controllable power strip

I did turn debugging on after updating to the 1.0.1 plugin but I see no messages in the log from it...forgot to restart the plugin:

Here's the log and I snapped a screenshot right after so the values should match up now:
