First of all, thanks for this great plugin, it's awesome.
I do have a small issue with the plugin. When I power up my receiver (AVR-X2300W), the "state" changes from "standby" to "powerup" but once the receiver is completely powered up, the state doesn't change to "on".

Sometimes it does change to "on" but most if the time it's stuck to "powerup". If I reload the plugin, the state changes to "on".
Anything I can do to have this status corrected? I have some triggers based on the state of the receiver...

Edit - debug:
Cynical Denon Living: Denon - Versterker is now standby
Cynical Denon Living: Denon - Versterker is now powerup

Thanks!

Interesting... I don't think anyone's reported that problem before.
When you power up your Denon, it simply sends the "I'm on" message twice (once immediately; then another when it's powered up the amplifiers); the plugin just counts up. So if you see this going wrong sometimes, that probably means messages are being lost somewhere. Is that a serial or IP connection? (If it's a serial connection, consider trying another serial cable.)

If you want to help debug this, go to the Cynical Denon configuration dialog, turn on debugging, and enter denon.avr into the debug modules field below. Then reproduce the problem and send me the Indigo log.

Hi Perry, the receiver is connected via static IP.
Here is the log:

Code: Select all
   Cynical Denon                   <- <Ctx:<attr:main_power>> ON
Cynical Denon                   Living: Denon - Versterker is now powerup

Cynical Denon                   <- <Ctx:unknown> SSALSDSP ON
   Cynical Denon                   <- <Ctx:unknown> SSALSVAL 000
   Cynical Denon                   -> MV30

Cynical Denon                   <- <Ctx:unknown> SSALSDSP OFF
   Cynical Denon                   <- <Ctx:unknown> SSALSVAL 000

Let me know if you need anything else, happy to debug more, thanks!

Re: Cynical Denon - Denon and Marantz AV Receiver control

Hi Perry,

I bought a second Denon receiver (Deon CEOL for some outdoor speakers) and created a AVR device in Indigo. Discovery etc works perfectly.
Now I noticed when I try to control my living receiver (AVR-X2300W), it pushes one command and then it stops, I can't control it anymore. First, I didn't know what was happening, tried to restart the plugin, server, ... But then I found it. When I disable communication with Indigo for the new receiver, it can control the living receiver again.

They both have a static IP and are in the same subnet. Any advise how I can control them both with Indigo?

Thanks!

Um... time. I've just started a new job, and my little side-lines like Indigo will have to go on the back burner for a bit. :-(

Re: Cynical Denon - Denon and Marantz AV Receiver control

Hi there, can anybody post a formula and a simple overview for how to control the receiver's volume using two buttons on a KeypadLinc? I'm pouring through the forums but can't find any example triggers and formulas.

First set up a trigger for the button press on keypad link. Have the trigger fire an action group as follows:

Re: Cynical Denon - Denon and Marantz AV Receiver control

I'd just like to thank Perry for that little bit of dialog regarding rated power/relative decibel value for amps. I have literally wondered for years about why my typical volume for listening to my amp is -25.

And now I understand! Sheesh, amps get loud. I can't imagine turning it up to +0 indoors.

SmartThings refugee, so happy to be on Indigo. Monterey on a base M1 Mini w/Harmony Hub, Hue, DomoPad, Dynamic URL, Device Extensions, HomeKitLink, Grafana, Plex, uniFAP, Fantastic Weather, Nanoleaf, LED Simple Effects, Bond Home, Camect.

Elwood, this is super helpful, thank you!

Too bad that Insteon devices don't support sending additional messages while they are held down.

I use a remote link mini wireless to control the Denon volume. one button for up and one button for down. A quick tap (on command) fires a action to "=device.volume+1".
Holding the button (start brighten) fires a different action "=device.volume+5". and increases the volume faster. You could also do a double tap (instant on) to fire a pre set high
volume setting. The second off button works the same but reduces the volume.

Thanks for the assist, Elwood!

And yes, we've all gotten extremely creative with abusing the limited Insteon message repertoire. :-)

Re: Cynical Denon - Denon and Marantz AV Receiver control

Woetjes,
I have the problem with the denon receiver taking one command and stopping after that. I have 3 Denon units, and they all do it. I have tried everything including a different MAC for indigo. Nothing solves this, and Pery hasn't been able to help. I have had the issue since day 1 at least 2 years ago.
I tried both ethernet connection and Serial/RS232 connection to the denon, and absolutely nothing.
Furthermore, the plugin dies after a few hours. I created a schedule that restarts the plugin every hour, but it is still useless because of the bug.

Have you been able to get it working?

Nope, the plugin only works properly with one receiver active, so I disabled the communication between the second receiver and Indigo.
I only use the second receiver for Airplay so I control that one with the Airfoil plugin.

Re: Cynical Denon - Denon and Marantz AV Receiver control

Woetjes,

Sorry you're having trouble. I have two receivers (one Denon and one Marantz) and they both seem to be talking to Indigo without messing each other up. I assume you've tried all the usual tricks (reloading the plugin, disabling and re-enabling a device, etc.) to no avail?

Cheers
