Re: Phidgets Plugin Discussion

As far as I know, I'm running the latest versions of everything involved. Problem occurred with both 1019 and SBC2. I've used to versions of the Webservice. I've been in touch with Phidgets, and while I theorized that the problem was a defective RFID, the tech disagreed. However, disconnecting the suspect RFID appears to have solved the problem (although it's been only about 30 hours that the operation has been normal). I'll send you the email correspondence separately.

Re: Phidgets Plugin Discussion

Is the Phidgets 3959_0 AC Solid State relay board supported?

Thanks,

Carl

Yes, but... The 3959 is actually controlled by a digital output on an InterfaceKit rather than being a standalone device (I.e. it is not connected directly to the computer). This is from the 3959 product page

This relay connects to the 1012 - PhidgetInterfaceKit 0/16/16. Just connect the positive control terminal of the SSR to the +5V terminal on the 1012, and connect the negative terminal to an open collector digital output on the 1012. Alternatively, you could connect this relay to any device with a digital output, however because of the power requirements we recommend wiring two digital outputs to the relay and switching them both simultaneously.
    diagram
So, if you hook it to a 1012 0/16/16 InterfaceKit then you can create an Indigo device for the digital output it is connected to and operate the device directly like any other Indigo on/off (relay) type device. If you connect the 3959 to a regular 8/8/8 InterfaceKit (like the SBC or the 1018 8/8/8) then you would have to use 2 digital outputs and create two devices in Indigo - then, so you could see it as a single device you would need to create a pseudo-device to represent the 2 digital output devices or build an action group, etc.

Confused yet? Ok, short answer is the plugin completely supports the 3959 but, you will need some type of digital output device (an SBC or an InterfaceKit) to hook the 3959 up to. Depending on your amperage and voltage requirements, you might be better off with a standard relay. Take a look at the 3051 which hooks up to a single digital output.

Post back if you have more questions.

Re: Phidgets Plugin Discussion

Great info. I hadn't read the fine print about it using 2 outputs :-(
Problem is I need to switch 7, 20 amp circuits.

Maybe possible to power the 3959's with a separate supply?

Many thanks!

Carl

Yes, you could use a second relay to switch control power to the 3959. You might be able to use the 3054 SSR, and certainly 3051 dual relay board. Check with Phidgets.

Re: Proliphix™ Plugin Discussion

I've been updating my home automation system over the holidays. I purchased a new MacMini and also a Phidgets Digitial IO board (1018_2 - PhidgetInterfaceKit 8/8/8). I hooked it up a couple of weeks ago and got everything working. I've got one analog sensor (temp) and 5 digital inputs (door sensors) connected. I interfaced it into some scripts that I have for checking the open/close status of my doors. Things were working as expected for a couple of weeks.

Starting yesterday I noticed that the Phidgets board is listed as being "offline" in red type. I checked the Phidgets monitor panel in System Preferences on the MacMini and everything seems OK. I can see the status of the door sensors working properly and also a reasonable value for the analog temp sensor.

I tried to enable/disable the Phidgets plugin a couple of times but that didn't make a difference, the plugin is still listed as offline. I then turned on the extensive logging capability and captured the attached log file as I enabled and then disabled the plugin.

Note that yesterday I had made another update to my MacMini that included installing the WeatherSnoop3 plugin and USB serial driver for my Davis Vantage Pro2 weather station. I had to fix the SuperCap in the weather station and so it had been offline for the past few months. I had originally installed the Phidgets plugin without the WeatherSnoop3 plugin when I had first gotten the Phidget to work. I disabled the WeatherSnoop3 plugin to see if that made a difference but the Phidgets plugin still stays offline.

Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Thanks.

Tim

From the log I cannot see any single specific issue that would cause this. I would suggest you review all your network settings, and then reboot the Phidget board, and finally restart the plugin.

If that does not fix the problem post back here and we can look further.

Re: Phidgets Plugin Discussion

I've unplugged/plugged in the USB port on the Phidget888, enabled/disabled the plugin, reloaded the plugin, deleted all of the Phidget devices and re-entered the basic one for the Phidget IFKit and still can't seem to get this to work again. I do have multiple USB serial drivers installed on my MacMini, and I believe I've picked the correct one for the Phidget when creating the new device, but I just can't get the device to connect. I'm not sure what else I can do to retrieve any additional information that would provide insight as to the problem.

Note that I downloaded the Applescripts from the Phidgets website and I can successfully use one of them (the one that does the polling) to retrieve the digital input settings and can retrieve the correct values when I open/close the digital input sensors. It looks like I'll just have to script this instead of using your plugin.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Phidgets Plugin Discussion

Well, after much experimentation I think I found out what the issue was (is). In some of my looking around at the various options available to use (both in your plugin and the Phidget panel), I had turned off the Web Service in the Phidgets panel in the System Preferences. I figured that since I had a USB connection to my local MacMini that I did not need to turn on the Web Service. But after turning back on the Web Service and recreating all of my Phidget devices, they are now online and working again. I'm speculating that you assume that the Web Service must be turned on in your Phidget plugin startup?

yup. That'll do it. There is a plugin option to directly read from the USB port, but the web-service is preferred since that lets you open the device in the Phidgets control panel and other apps... Just make sure use the Bonjour tab in the cp.

Anyway, glad you got it fixed.

Sensors are not getting updated in Indigo

Hi-
OK here's what happening.
I have a Mac Mini running OSX 10.9.5 that the Phidgets 8/8/8 is plugged into, on it the panel comes up and the sensors read fine. Web Service is running and Bonjour shows with a Server ID as basement version 904 and serial# 324118 so this end looks good.

On the Indigo side I'm also on a Mac Mini running OSX 10.9.5 Indigo ver. 6.0.20 Phidgets plug-in 0.6.5

Indego sees the 1018 and the sensors and they read fine when I reload the Plug-in, BUT does not update the values that change until I do another plug-in reload. It looks like it's not getting polled.
any thoughts about a fix?

Re: Phidgets Plugin Discussion

On the mini with the 8/8/8 attached do you happen to have the board open from the "General" tab in the Phidgets control panel. Or, is there any other program accessing the 8/8/8 directly rather than by the web service?

Also, Make sure the Phidgets libs are the same version on both macs.

Re: Phidgets Plugin Discussion

Hi
Any thoughts about adding a 0999d? I use some LM-34 temp sensors that the voltage value is the one I need, but 60 degrees is output as .60 so I need to multiply by 100. Not hard to do in my head but it would be nice to be able to set in a formula before stuffing it into a variable. So a 0999d that used voltage would be handy.
