Twitter Plugin Discontinued

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/756 ... -0.0.1.zip

This version does not provide any facility for authenticating a Twitter account. To use this version, the user must get authentication keys from the Twitter developer portal. Steps are as follows.

I highly recommend setting up a secondary Twitter account for this purpose, so you're not sending Indigo tweets to your normal followers.

  1. Log in at http://twitter.com.
  2. Go to https://apps.twitter.com
  3. Click the "Create a New App" button.
Name: "Indigo Plugin" (or something else if you want)
Description: "A Twitter plugin for Indigo" (ditto)
    Website: (anything, doesn't matter)
    Callback URL: leave blank
Agree to the terms and click on the button.
  4. Go to the "Keys and Access Tokens" tab.
  5. Click on "Create my access token" button at bottom of page.
You will need four items from this page to configure a Twitter device in Indigo:

Consumer Key
Consumer Secret
Access Token
Access Token Secret

Make sure the "Access Level" says "Read and write".

Install the Twitter plugin, create a Twitter account device, and enter those four items in the device configuration dialog. There's one action available - send a Tweet.

Re: Twitter Plugin available for beta test

I'm still trying to figure out if there's any reasonable way to do the authentication from the plugin. To do it in the plug in, at device configuration time I would need to do these steps:

  1. Request a token from Twitter. Easy.
  2. Display a URL to the user. Not easy.
  3. Display a config dialog to the user for them to cut/paste tokens from the web page shown.
  4. Save the tokens.

I just can't think of any way to do this multi-step process in the course of a validateDeviceConfigUi() call.

Another item on the to-do list is to have a "Follower" device which subscribes to the feed from a particular user, and then does actions based on pattern matching on tweets in the feed.

Re: Twitter Plugin available for beta test

Flying, out of curiosity, what is the appeal of tweeting notifications? It makes me think of that Big Bang Theory when they put their X10 devices on the Internet and people in China were toggling their lights on and off

I'm not saying tweeting with Indigo is good or bad, I'm just not sure why someone might to choose that instead of SMS or email or whatever.

Re: Twitter Plugin available for beta test

Honestly, I'm not sure either. I don't really use Twitter. Which is hard to admit since my brother is a Director there. ;)

It was a high priority request for the OSX application I currently support (http://www.stokerx.com). So I figured I'd do a quick plugin for Indigo.

One advantage is that it's easy to do broadcast type notifications which people can subscribe to as needed. SMS and email distribution are both controlled by the sender, not the recipient.

Haha, I hear you, for me personally Twitter lost me in the beginning because their name starts off as TWIT, and that should tell me something (and did)

Development of this plugin has been discontinued. Use viewtopic.php?f=134&t=12486 instead.
