I am using the plugin to set numerical data such as room temp via Alexa - the DIM variable business is great, thanks for inventing it.

I was wondering if I can get back info from Indigo to Alexa (and which gets spoken to me) eg the current room temp?

Unfortunately that isn't possible at the moment in any manner AFAIK.

The Alexa-Hue Bridge plugin couldn't do it as it is pretending to be a Philips Hue Hub controlling Philips Hue lamps.

OK thanks. Is there ANY way (skill) to make Alexa say a given phrase, and if so, can Indigo make it happen?

No there isn't any skill or anyway of doing it - that's what I meant by:

It would be great if it could do it but I suspect there would be some authorisation hurdles to overcome if and when the capability to do this is allowed.

That article seems to want to make Alexa speak un-prompted. I would want a skill to retrieve a number from within Indigo (or a text file, etc) and to read it out.

So, "Alexa, what is the lounge temperature?" ....... she says "seventeen" etc

It’s actually IS possible, there are a couple of people doing it with other HA packages. I’ll see if I can dig up a video and post here...

Edit: Check out this thread, a couple of videos in there. One is using a canned skill with the HA package, the other is using a custom skill.

I’ve thought about writing my own custom skill, but Homebridge does most all of this by default so I haven’t really seen the usefulness of the Echo and the extra work it would take to get to the level of the Siri/Homebridge solution.
