New Plugin Losing Connection

Shortly after upgrading to Indigo 7 & Alexa-Hue Bridge 2.0.2 I've begun having connectivity issues with the Alexa-Hue bridge. After 1-2 hours, Alexa can no longer control any Indigo devices.

Nothing seems to show up in Indigo's logs, even with debugging enabled. I've attempted deleting/reinstalling the plugin & removing the emulated bridge, then recreating it, but neither have solved the issue. My current workaround is a script that restarts the plugin once an hour. (boo.)

I’m curious if anyone else is experiencing this or if there is a solution.

Re: New Plugin Losing Connection

I haven't personally seen this - my system just works.

What does Alexa say / do when you tell her to turn an Indigo device on or off?

You say you have turned on logging - I assume you mean logging in the Alexa-Hue Bridge plugin (set via the plugin config)?

All debug logging info from the plugin will get written to its own plugin.log file in the opensource.alexa-hue-bridge folder contained in the Indigo Logs folder (accessible by clicking on the Show Event Logs Folder in the Indigo Event Log window.

You can (if you haven't already) turn on the logging and when you get this problem, PM me the log entries from say 5 minute before and forwards.

I'll see what I can do to help. :)

Re: New Plugin Losing Connection

Hi,

I was having a problem where Alexa would tell me that it couldn't connect to the device and to check it's network settings. Restarting the plugin worked temporarily. Interestingly I had to do a factory reset on the Echo, which actually seems to have fixed my issue at least.

Thanks,
Pete

Re: New Plugin Losing Connection

Jon - Partial log sent via PM. (full log is too long to fit in PM).

I just disabled my plugin restart schedule, as I suspect the log I sent doesn't include the issue do to plugin restarts. I will send another log that definitely includes when the issue is occurring.

Thanks for your help!

Re: New Plugin Losing Connection

I have taken a look at the logs and nothing leaps out at me. :(

However, I have just noticed that the logs are (I think) from version 2.0.2.

I suggest that you upgrade to 2.0.7 (released yesterday) to see if that makes any difference.
If not then you can PM me log extracts were a command from Alexa works and where it doesn't and I will be more easily able to compare against my logs to detect any difference :)

Re: New Plugin Losing Connection

Thanks, will do. From what I could see, nothing shows up in the log when it fails. The last entry in the log I sent showed the last successful request I had before everything started failing.

Re: New Plugin Losing Connection

I just upgraded to 7 this weekend and updated the plugin only works for a few moments then Alexa tells me the device "isn't responding".

I have to keep restarting the plug-in and it works momentarily before going dumb again. I don't want to have to go back to pushing buttons! Help!

Re: New Plugin Losing Connection

What version of the plugin are you running?

Can you at any point (before it fails) tell Alexa to turn a device off or on and for it to work?

Re: New Plugin Losing Connection

I was having this problem, the alexa plug-in stopped working after 15 minutes or so. While waiting for my forum account to be activated I found that disabling the energy saver that put my computer to sleep fixed the problem. So far so good.

Re: New Plugin Losing Connection

Howdy!

I'm using 2.0.8. It works for a few minutes, if at all, immediately following a reload or complete restart of Indigo.

Thanks for your help,
P

I am not sure I understand what you mean here? :?

If you are running Indigo, your computer should never go to sleep as Indigo needs to be operating 24/7 if it is to respond to network activity.

Are you referring to your Client computer rather than the server? :)

You can PM me your logs so that I can take a look and see if I can see anything. See my reply to the original poster on how to do this if you aren't sure.
Make sure you turn on all the logging and then reload the plugin so I can see what is happening from the plugin start.

Once you get the problem, you can PM me the logs. :)

Yes, apparently I'm not too bright. I've been running Indigo for years on this computer, never realized it was sleeping, didn't seem to cause a problem. This is what I was seeing on the log right before Alexa quit working:

But my computer sleeps no more, Alexa works fine.

I'll consider myself pinged - it slipped off my radar

I will follow it up tomorrow :)
