Alexa App not discovering devices

I can see the plugin on

From the the logs I can see the UDP response to my network scanner (on the same iPhone as the alexa app), but nothing is logged when I try the discover devices from the Alex app itself.

Help!! :(

Re: Alexa App not discovering devices

That's not the only response. It's the first of many during the conversation. Turn on debug logging and see if any other requests are being seen and replied to.

Also, you only mention the app. Have you asked Alexa to discover? Just curious if that fails too. And, you did set up some devices using the plugin, right?

Re: Alexa App not discovering devices

Hi,

I've only used the app so far, I have a dot (under the Christmas tree and wanted to get a head start).

I have logging on and can see the following in logs ( .43 ip is my denon media amp searching for network media), I can see similar from other clients like my Sony TV etc. however the only time I see my iPhone is when I use a network scanner app. One thing I have noticed from the scanner is that there is no UPNP on the Indigo server,.

I do see:
acPro:opensource.alexa-hue-bridge garythom$ sudo lsof -i :1900
Password:
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME
IndigoPlu 396 garythom 12u IPv4 0x117b8d50 0t0 UDP *:ssdp

There was an additional one (PLEX Server) but I stopped it, when Plex was running I did see a UPNP service, it went away when I stopped it of course. But should I expect to see a UPNP for Indigo?

I have 8 devices shared in the Alexa device I created.

Re: Alexa App not discovering devices

So, wait - you don't have any Echo or other Alexa devices on your network? I suspect that's the issue. I'm not sure the app would actually do/see anything since it's actually the Echo that performs the discovery itself...

Re: Alexa App not discovering devices

Sometimes the Alexa App doesn't seem to work. I have had the most success asking Alexa directly to do it. :)

Only this evening I deleted all my Alexa devices and tried to get the App to discover them - it couldn't find any.
I then asked Alexa to discover devices and she discovered all of them :?

Edit: Just seen Jay's post above - If you haven't got any actual Alexa devices, I definitely think you need to turn one on :)

Re: Alexa App not discovering devices

I've noticed a lag between publishing a new device though the plug-in and Alexa actually being able to discover it. Sometimes I need to open the Alexa "Indigo device" twice before the newly published device gets noticed by Alexa. Sometimes it helps to wait 5-10 minutes after first setting up a device before telling Alexa to do discovery.

Re: Alexa App not discovering devices

Correct, no device on the network (still wrapped / under the tree), I guess I will just have to be patient and wait for Christmas day.

Thanks to everyone taking the time to reply.

I've got the same problem with a macbook . The right hand side of the screen has a red band on it.

I think you may be on to something here. :)

This evening, I added in another Emulated Hue Bridge device and added some Indigo devices to it, I saved the changes and then went back to add another device saved it and then ran discovery. The last device added wasn't picked up. After re-editing and then saving the Emulated Hue Bridge, Alexa discovered the additional device.

Perish the thought but this could be a bug in the code - I will take a look at it next week unless someone else beats me to it.

Re: Alexa App not discovering devices

I believe (and hope ) that version 2.0.7 of the plugin resolves this issue. :)
