Re: Alexa Bridge Keeps Going Off Line

Sorry I have been a way a while. I tried deleting all the devices on the Alexa web-site and re-enabling them - it didn't fix the problem. See the related error messages below:

Re: Alexa Bridge Keeps Going Off Line

Not sure what the "broken pipe" error is - I think this normally indicates that a communication failure has occurred. :?

When you say that you "tried deleting all the devices on the Alexa web-site and re-enabling them" I am not sure what that means. If you did what I suggested (i.e. Forget Devices) then you can't re-enable them as they no longer exist. You have to do an Alexa discovery or is that what you meant?

What happens if you reload the plugin having forgotten the devices and then try a discovery?

Sorry, I was unclear.I did forget all devices then rediscover. Still no joy.

Re: Alexa Bridge Keeps Going Off Line

I am not sure what is causing this broken pipe problem? :?

Does it work and then after a while you get the broken pipe messages and it stops working?

I wonder whether something is grabbing the port after the plugin has obtained it and assigned it to an Alexa-Hue Bridge device.
What other plugins / programs are you running that could effect this?

Re: Alexa Bridge Keeps Going Off Line

I seem to intermittently lose connections ie broken pipe (whatever that means)

I have 13 Alexa Bridges defined in Indigo and 8 Echo Dot's

The majority of the issues seems to be related to when I am trying to controlling my TV and Av via the Logitech Remote Plugin and various Sonos' using the Sonos plugin.

It's a failure to read/write from/to a socket, usually because it's closed or because the request is blocked beyond when the server closes the connection. Generally, it's an indication of some kind of network problem.

How old is your Mac? What OS is it running? What else is running on the Mac (even if it's unrelated to Indigo)? A resource constraint could conceivably be causing the issue as well.

The mac is a Mini - Late 2014, i7, 16GB Ram with a 1TB SSD

The mini is a dedicated home server. The only software I run on it is Sophos AV, Crashplan Backup and 1 password.

The built in firewall is turned off. My router (firewall) is a sonicwall NSA 3600

Re: Alexa Bridge Keeps Going Off Line

There is a pre-Release version of the plugin available on Github - see here: 3.0.23 Release - Requires Indigo 7

Can you try that? :)

This version enables you to define your Echos as Indigo Devices - You just give them a name and specify their IP Address. You don't have to do this but it will make the log messages more user friendly by using a name rather than IP address.

So when it works (i.e. it is online and Alexa is responding to your spoken command) , you will see a message in the event log telling you which of your Echo Dots has sent the command to Indigo (either IP address or name, if you have set up the Echo device as an Indigo Device).

You should find that typically the same Echo Dot will be used by Amazon to send the command to Indigo, regardless of which Echo Dot you actually speak to.

Having identified the Echo Dot which is sending the commands, when Alexa goes offline, try speaking the command to the previously identified Echo Dot which is sending the command to Indigo and see if it brings the others back online.

Hope that makes sense? :)

Re: Alexa Bridge Keeps Going Off Line

I was having the same problem, with the "broken pipe" messages. Finally I looked in my Alexa app and saw that my devices existed there double or triple! I delete all of them, did a re-discovery, and all seems goo d now!
