Indigo Touch 1.0.1 and Indigo 4.0 Beta 7 Update

Indigo Touch (iPhone App) 1.0.1 is coming soon [SEE POST BELOW ABOUT RELEASE DELAY], and Indigo 4.0 (Client/Server) beta 7 is available now please BUT DO NOT UPGRADE EITHER OF THEM until you read this post (download link at the bottom).

We are awaiting Apple's approval for Indigo Touch 1.0.1 to go live on the iTunes App store, and we've run into a bit of a chicken or the egg problem. Because of some enhancements and database structure changes, Indigo Tough 1.0.1 only works with Indigo 4.0 beta 6+. Furthermore, Indigo Touch 1.0.0 only works with beta 5. Therefore you need to upgrade both Indigo Touch to 1.0.1 and Indigo to 4.0 beta 7 at the same time, or you'll temporarily (until you upgrade both) not be able to use Indigo Touch.

We are a bit concerned about this because Apple makes upgrading apps a bit too easy. We aren't able to present the user with any type of compatibility upgrade warning nor can we warn via email because Apple doesn't provide us email adddresses of Touch customers, so it is possible some folks will upgrade to Indigo Touch 1.0.1 while away from home and not be able to upgrade Indigo to beta 7 at that time.

So please resist the temptation to upgrade Indigo 1.0.1 on your iPhone / iPod touch until you are at home and also have the ability to download and install beta 7 of Indigo 4.0. Likewise, do not upgrade to Indigo 4.0.0 beta 7 until Indigo Touch is available on the iTunes Store. Hopefully, it will be approved in the next couple of days. In the future we'll try to come up with a better mechanism for all this.

When you are positive you are ready to upgrade Indigo 4.0 beta 7, meaning both Apple has approved of Indigo 1.0.1 and you are ready to install it, then you can download Indigo 4.0 beta 7.

Re: Indigo Touch 1.0.1 and Indigo 4.0 Beta 6 Update

Updates included in Indigo 4.0.0 beta 7 and 6 include:
  • Added Control Page on click/touch support to execute both server and client (Web browser) actions (ex: on button click execute Action Group AND navigate to a different Control Page or external URL)
  • Added Web server pages: Devices, Action Groups, and Variables.
  • Added Web support for control of Thermostats, Sprinklers, and EZIOxxx hardware without needing to create Control Pages.
  • Added Web support for editing Variable values from Variables page (plug-in no longer needed).
  • Added Web support for running under a reverse proxy.
  • Added RESTful Web API for access to Devices, Variables, and Action Groups.
  • Added logging of Indigo Touch connections.
  • Moved Indigo Web server plugins to be listed on the root page instead of the Control Page list page.
  • Impoved appearance of Web server root page.
  • Impoved Web server performance for automatic control state and variable value updates.
  • Improved support for browsers which do not support JavaScript (mobile devices) for most pages, including graphical Control Pages.
  • Disabled any changes to read-only variables (isDaylight for instance).
  • Fixed a variable window sort order issue.
  • Fixed problem in the Start Local Server modal dialog that caused the Stop/Start Server buttons to incorrectly stay disabled.
  • Fixed Web server / Safari incompatibility that caused Safari to randomly show blank pages.
  • Fixed beta 6 Web server folder permission problem that prevented browser control clicks from working.
  • Modified database format version (you will be prompted to save a new copy of your database when first launching).

All,

Unfortunately, Apple has decided that v1.0.1 of Indigo Touch doesn't have good enough warnings for the user when there is no network connection available, and has rejected v1.0.1 because "This behavior might lead to user confusion".

We're working on adding even more obvious user notification that Indigo Touch requires a network connection, and will get it resubmitted as quickly as possible. As an aside, note that nothing has changed about this behavior between v1.0 and v1.0.1, so we can only assume that there is some lack of standards on Apple's side when reviewing apps...

This last review took exactly 1 week, and we have no doubt that the next review cycle will require at least that amount of time, so it's likely to be at least mid-week next week before it may show up in App Store (assuming we can get some "fix" done in a couple of days).

We appreciate your patience as we work through the vagaries of the App Store approval process.

[EDIT] - after examining the logs on the Demo Server, it seems that the reviewer didn't do anything else after enabling the network connection and making the initial connection. This makes us a bit worried that once we get this "problem" fixed, they'll start actually using the app and will find something else they don't like. Keep your fingers crossed...

[EDIT to the EDIT] - actually, they NEVER connected to the demo server at all... :(
