Homebridge works great but could be better...

Hi everyone,

since Jay just announced a lack of support on SiriKit and he posted that he expect Homkit to be the same I just wanted to add a little to the discussion. (I hope it's ok here)

Im my opinion Homekit works quite well with Siri and the Homebridge. It's fast and reliable in my world.
The only problem seems to be that the types of devices are limited due to the Restful API and the data Indigo is providing there.
Couldn't it be much enhanced, if Indigo would provide more detailed information about the devices, so that Homebridge would be able to announce them properly to Homekit?

Just an idea.....
TIA

Wilhelm

We'll be addressing the missing pieces in the RESTful API in a future release, after Indigo 7 ships.

I'm looking forward to that! I've been holding off on adding more "treatAsXXX" hacks in the hopes that a better solution could be found.

I was just going to ask for an "treatAsFan"

I have a ceiling fan with a light. When I tell siri to turn off the lights in the master bedroom it turns off the lights and the fan :(

Any ideas on a short term workaround for this?

Quick workarounds would be to either treat it as a switch (but then it's just on or off, no dimming), or put it in a differently named room in HomeKit,

I changed the fan to a switch. That works pretty well. Thanks. :D

Concerning Fans
I have a couple of ceiling fans that I use wall mounted INSTEON switchlinc relays to turn them on and off. Speed control is from the fan specific remote. I define the wall switches with "treatAsSwitchIds" in homebridge-indigo. The Home app then shows an option under details to select the "Type". The options are Fan, Light or Switch. I select Fan and that works great.

This was great advice, thanks! It works beautifully.
