Re: piBeacon: 7- tested Beacons

I tried the first version from Peeble Bee and they were not good. Bad battery live and not too thin and had many bugs.
Have not tested any newer version

the cheapest I found is the triangle "iHere" for $10 at amazon. it is rechargeable. it looks as if the charge lasts longer than 1 week

Re: piBeacon: 7- tested Beacons

Ok, which are the best that work with piBeacon and small enough to keep them in the pocket with keys?
I am leaving for holiday on the 23rd and coming back on 7th January.
Hope to get them before I leave :)

I would need 8 of them.

Do they have replaceable battery? This would be important so that I can replace it.

Therefore, important things:

- battery to be replaced
- small enough to fit a pocket :)

Thanks a lot

Re: piBeacon: 7- tested Beacons

Looked like the XY3s are cheaper in the same quantity... Or are they out of stock?

Re: piBeacon: 7- tested Beacons

got 4 of the xy4 .. they are NOT ready for primetime..

- difficult to add in the xy app
- the search function does not properly work
- they create new MAC numbers constantly have 14 for 2 active devices
and when you remove the battery and put it back in a new set is created, the UUIS stays unique for each beacon

and they are 50% bigger (and have a large battery )

I guess we should stick with the xy3 for the time being.

So MarcoGT: should I order 8 xy3 for you? price ~ $15 -- can get (black white silver snow) for ~$100 for 8.
I am leaving Thursday morning next week - delivery for the other colors might take longer.

Re: piBeacon: 7- tested Beacons

Hi Karl,

color does not matter, not important.
What is important is size, battery replaceable.

Yes, then take 8 for 100$.

Thanks a lot

Re: piBeacon: 7- tested Beacons

Been a while since this thread has been updated... Has anyone had a chance to try the XY4+s yet? I've been using the original XY2s and 3s I bought years ago, replacing the batteries 2 or 3 times per year, and haven't added any more recently even though I have several friends that I'd like to because the 3s are no longer available and when I tried a new tile+ and nut3 as well as a few of the $5 to $10 "no name keyfinders, they only show as "up" when the appropriate app is running on my phone and they are in proximity to it; there doesn't seem to be any way to make them generic continuous beacons that the rPis see all the time. So does the XY4+ have this same problem?

Re: piBeacon: 7- tested Beacons

yes I believe so, tested the XY4 when they came out and send them back. no BLE messages, only after phone app contacts them

Re: piBeacon: 7- tested Beacons

So does anybody still make a simple BLE pinger anymore?
