Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

re signal strength of beacons at 1 m distance

xy: fixed at -59 dBm
tile: fixed -59
USB radius -69 (= can be set, but this is the max )
sanwo with 4 AA batteries default is -66, but can be set (with and android app, no iPhone app)

arriving at my house:
1. the AAA on the dashboard, signal strength at -91 ~ 30 meter away from home, but that depend on if I come from the right or left .. better or worse line of sight
2. 7 secs later parking in front of the house
-xy on the keychain @ -89
- USB beacon @ -93
both no line of sight

so with an ibeacon @ -66 TX power on the front dash board it give ample warning. you can easily open the garage door.

Karl

good explanation of signal strength and how it is measured and distance calculation at https://www.beaconzone.co.uk/choosingthetransmittedpower

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

Just updated to the current version (61.107) from one about a month old (74. something I think) and started getting
    Jun 17, 2017, 5:30:43 AM
piBeacon in Line '1361' has error=''key note not found in dict''
    piBeacon unknown error
piBeacon in Line '1361' has error=''key note not found in dict''
    piBeacon unknown error

messages after restart; maybe a device that didn't get updated fully when new states got added? A reload of the plugin did not help... Would it be possible to add the device who's dict is missing the key to the error message? I early don't want to recreate ALL of the devices (and triggers and scripts and control pages and...).

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

Could you check the devices if there is one without state "note"

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

Do you have anything besides beacons and rpi devices?

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

John,

could you load this one.. not a fix but it should tell which device has the problem (name + states) and also print the internal data structure dict used in the plugin

Karl

ps when you restart a plugin indigo will automatically straighten out all states (as defend in devices.xml)
If one is missing it will be added and if one is deleted it will be deleted

so this must be some other weird thing

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

Karl,

After the latest update, I am getting "ssh_exchange_identification: read: Connection reset by peer", when trying to connect to one of the rPIs.

Any suggestion on how to correct?

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

could you do a manual ssh pi@ip# and see if that works ?
that is normally a message that the RPI hangs

you could try to do pibeacon/send .. " reboot RRI force through socket "

that does not use SSH but socket communication the the pibeacon listener on the rpi

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

Get the same error doing a manual ssh.

Did try the " reboot RRI force through socket " already and it seem to reboot, I don't think it did.

cycle power?

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

that HARD reboot is like a power cycle.

could yo do a "hard shutdown" then after 5 secs do a power cycle?

if that does not work .. the SSD is likely bad

will add HARD reboot and hard shut down to the actions (not just in menu) hesitate to put any logic into the plugin that does that automatically .
you should be able to do it in an action.

Sorry, just got back home and saw your reply; I have half a dozen common beacons, 2 BLEConnects I'm experimenting with, 2 dozen GPIO Input 1s monitoring contact closures, and one temperature sensor spread over 4 rPi 3s. There didn't seem to be any link to try loading in the post.

OK; it's one of the BLEConnects that I tried to set up to see if I could use my IPhone reliably in that mode:

I generated it by using an old IPhone "standard" beacon device that I had tried to set up with a UUID list, changing its type to BLEConnect, and defining the Bluetooth MAC. And watching it, it did appear to be working... except for this problem. Should I delete it and create a brand new beacon? Or turn beacon discovery (currently off, and the primary reason I upgraded) back on and change the type once the phone reappears?

I will fix it in an hour. If you like you can delete and recreate it
