Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

I already had it set to "http to server" or the last one in the list. I changed it to "get data details" or the 3rd one. But that the log file /var/log/BLEconnect.log doesn't exist. I updated the plugin to 7.29.23 and tried pushing the config file to the rpi again with a reboot but still no log.

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

could you do:

ps -ef | grep python

or use the menu:/ send config .../ get rPi system stats to log file /.. for that rPI
and post .. remove the userid and passwords

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

that all looks good, could you, but the task BLEconnect.py is not running..

could you post
cd pibeacon
cat parameters
remove userid/passwords

would like to see if there is something like:
Code: Select all
 "sensors": {
    "BLEconnect": {
      "65802248": {
        "BLEtimeout": "10",
        "iPhoneRefreshDownSecs": 5.0,
        "iPhoneRefreshUpSecs": 90.0,
        "mac": "18:65:90:6A:B9:0D",
        "retryIfUP": false
      }
    }
in there.
if not the setup of the device is not correct or the parameters file did not get pushed.

if yes.. there must be a bug in master.py .. that one launches BLEconnect
for that could you post
tail -f /var/log/master.log

can I manually launch BLEconnect to see if it does anything? Or does it get input from master at the call?

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

I see the problem:

"BLEserial": "",

should be :"sequential" or "parallel"

could you make sure that in RPI device edit you select either sequential or parallel.

this is set in the RPI not in the BLE device as it is set for all BLE devices for each RPI individually

will add a check for that one

Karl,

Can't seem to get the BLEconnect to work with 7.29..23. Everything else seems to work.

suggestions?

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

I was able to kind of get it working. I had to actually pair the iOS device to the rPi. But if more than one connected it lost all the other beacons till i restarted the pi. After the restart it's hit or miss whether it picks up the iOS device and if it picks up more than one at the same time it loses all other beacons again. Unfortunately haven't had the time to invest looking at it right now though.

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

the BLEconnect is a hit and miss the phone (iPhone and android) sometimes go to sleep and do not answer any BLE requests.

what does lose the other beacons mean : the indigo devices are not there anymore or no update?

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

I have tried on an RPI2:
-- regular iBeacon,
--ultrasound sensor (heavy load),
-- a display and
--BLEconnect(with 2 BLE iPhones, one up and one down)
and they all work, not missing anything .. beside some false negatives on BLE due to iPhone going to sleep

Need more info to understand why yours is not working ...

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

Looking at your statement that you tried to pair the iPhone ugh the rpi:please do not use the Bluetooth stack on the rpi e.g. To connect to some device in the graphical interface.
The pibeacon Bluetooth programs will likely not work when some other programs are using Bluetooth

Pibeacon program requires full access to the Bluetooth stack. It sets some filters and does some other things that will likely not coexist with "normal" Bluetooth usage

Re: piBeacon: presence monitoring plugin discussions

glad to hear it works again ..
the variables have nothing to do with any issue what so ever. they are simply variables.

as for the the NEW Tiles: "they have nothing to do with iBeacon" they do not transmit any remotely iBeacon equivalent messages. Yes they use BLE but like printers mouse etc do they are really different. Now that does not mean that I have given up on them ... but I need some 3 uninterrupted days to dive deep into the bluetooth stack to understand filters, repetition of signals ...

coming up: raspberry shake integration ..
