ASUS/MERLIN version confusion

Having just updated to FINGSCAN v7.21.2, I'm in confusion as to what to set my "type of Router" to on the Plugin Configure page.

I have an Asus Router with v380.62_1 Merlin firmware, so should I select < 378_54 or v= 378_54 as neither of these mathematically equate? :)

Re: ASUS/MERLIN version confusion

Try it out. It's about what kind of op-Sys your router runs. But it does not support any newer version with the new better security model. ~ introduced 18 months ago

Re: ASUS/MERLIN version confusion

I think you need to spell it out for me.

Does v= 378.84 mean >= 378.84 or has FINGSCAN only been tested with that specific version and I need to downgrade my firmware, or are you saying that I should try different values in fingscan for this to see what happens?

If I choose the latter option, what should I be looking out for to see if it works or not?

More confused than before :?

Re: ASUS/MERLIN version confusion

I don't recall anymore ... sometime around these versions the screen got changed. And I adopted the program. I guess I mistyped the version #'s

anyway these merlin versions should work:

378.56_2 (2-Nov-2015)

and

380.58 (20-Mar-2016)

anything with the new token security not anymore.

Re: ASUS/MERLIN version confusion

OK, since my current Merlin version is only a minor version difference from the latest version you've tested (380.62 vs 380.58) I would imagine I'm OK at my firmware level with fingscan and that I should choose the last option from the fingscan router type: ASUS/MERLIN v= 378_54 as being the most feature rich?

Re: ASUS/MERLIN version confusion

looking at the code: the last version that is indicated is MERLIN378_54

and anything before should pick ASUS/MERLIN < 378_54

I am sorry not be able to help as I have switched to unifi routers and AP's. I switched this year in June and I believe they upgraded to the new security schema in ~ April/May. That is when the wifi part stopped working as the simple "curl" statement did not work any more.

to test if it can work: could you open a terminal and type:
/usr/bin/curl --max-time 3 -u YOURUSERID:YOURPASSWORD 'http://IPNUMBER/Main_WStatus_Content.asp'

if it comes back with a lot of text (thats good) and NOT "error not authorized stuff" you should be able to make it work

Re: ASUS/MERLIN version confusion

Ah, OK, it looks as though my version doesn't work, but if this is specifically just for obtaining WiFi info then I'm not bothered by that since I have numerous WiFi repeaters around the place which wouldn't report their WiFi data to the plugin either.
