You have several options Best option: Sequence of lines. Do the histogram/ filled curves first then the other lines You can also select transparent in the top part of the plot. But I need to check what that exactly does.
one of my test files, not a beauty, but . the same plot with transparent curves at 0 / 50% transparency; the filled curve is line #5 so plotted at last,
you could better use the previously mentioned option to plot that "line" first and the otters on top.

yes one of them is done manually at a fixed spot: MATPLOT does not offer line keys for filled curves .. it is actually an object with two lines and the area in-between is filled -one is at y=ymin.
if you have 2 filled curves .. you are out of luck.. if you have one, you could change the line # of the normal one. that would place it somewhere else...
this is a fudge to show at least something as line key
but you could use filled histograms, they work fine.
