Autolog Smappee Controller Discussion

Please use this thread for any suggestions or questions on the Autolog 'Smappee Controller' Plugin that I will upload shortly - I just have to put some documentation together which I am working on at the moment :)

The Smappee Controller connects to a Smappee and sets up a device to log Consumption (Usage) and Solar. It can setup separate devices (under user control) for Smappee Actuators (plugs) and Smappee Appliances (automatically detected by the Smappee e.g. Fridge, Freezer, Kettle etc).

The plugin development has taken me a bit longer than I anticipated (or hoped for) as I have had to learn about Factory devices in Indigo and try to map how the Smappee works to how Indigo works. :)

I will keep this thread posted on progress and post an announcement when the plugin is available.

Re: Autolog Smappee Controller Discussion

I have just uploaded Smappee Controller (V1.0.1) which contains minor improvements that I spotted needed sorting after I had uploaded V1.0.0

The documentation is available here. :)

Re: Autolog Smappee Controller Discussion

Hi Autolog,

I have been running this on Mountain Lion for a few weeks now and works great. I have only defined the Usage Monitor and a handful of Appliances but so far so good. I will try creating some triggers off the appliances. Not for me to get creative! Thanks Jon!

Re: Autolog Smappee Controller Discussion

Hi!

Thank you for the plugin - it works fine.

Is it possible to change it a bit - to show watts in the interface?

I.e. like Aeon meter:

I am sure it is :)

Are you looking for the current consumption / generation or consumption / generation accumulated total total since reset?

Re: Autolog Smappee Controller Discussion

Hi!

Current consumption (or current energy generation for Solar panels) is the best option IMHO.

It is also nice to set it as a "energy" type device to show nice icon in UI (and iOS application) but it's not mandatory for sure :)

I agree and that is what I had gone ahead with coding. :)

It is already an "energy" type device which is why you get the Current Load, Total Usage, Last Reset and Reset Date in the Device Details Pane. I was overriding the default display to show Connected and disconnected.

I have done some changes earlier in the week (I've been out for a few days) but I can now PM you a link to a test version to try out and see what you think. :)

Not at the moment as I haven't ordered one because I don't think it will work with my very old style gas meter.
My water meter is in the pavement outside the front of my house, so I don't think it will work for me there either. :(

I did try the Navetas gas meter which did work with my old meter but I returned it after my trial ended as it didn't support Solar power (not sure if it does yet?).

 However, with all that said, I am open to extending the plug into support gas/water but would need some info/testing from someone who has one. :)

I have investigated a bit further and browsed the user manual - I now think it probably will work with my gas meter and so I will order one which will make life easier when I update the plugin. :)

Re: Autolog Smappee Controller Discussion

Yep, it will work with virtually any old / mechanical meter...

BTW may be you'll find time to fix some old issue - in case of network connection missing when plugin is starting, the only way to make it work - to restart manually :)

Re: Autolog Smappee Controller Discussion

I have ordered one - won't ship until after 11th April.

I have started on the changes required to handle gas & water and will look at the network problem :)

 I am also evaluating whether to add in costs so that one can see how much electricity is costing and what solar savings one is making.

If you do have issues with your meter you can always just request your power company to swap it out for a smart meter, assuming that the smappee works with them (I'm hoping they do as that's what I have and I'm wanting to get one at some point )

Computer says no.
