Seems there might be an old Importer520 USB modem that Dialectic claims will work under 10.7
that I'll try. Might as well bite the bullet sooner than later.

Hmm, your requirements may be more extensive than mine if you were looking for a full SOHO phone system.

Not at all; I still only want to know incoming number - which like you I'll do after the fancy bits of the phone system.

In my case the transition from version 6 t o7 was seamless. No issues at at all.
