Error OWserver plugin

I have been using the plugin for a while now an it worked with the following result in de log file:

2016-09-20 00:00:32.721 OWServer Getting OWServer data...
2016-09-20 00:00:33.001 OWServer Total of 1 servers polled.
2016-09-20 00:00:33.002 OWServer Total of 3 devices updated.
2016-09-20 00:00:33.002 OWServer OWServer data parsed successfully.

Today I found this message in my log:

2016-09-20 13:05:08.217 OWServer Getting OWServer data...
2016-09-20 13:05:23.223 OWServer Error Exception error getting server data: timed out
2016-09-20 13:05:23.244 OWServer Error Error parsing sensor states: Parse() argument 1 must be string or read-only buffer, not None
2016-09-20 13:05:23.245 OWServer Error Trying again in 120 seconds.
2016-09-20 13:05:23.247 OWServer Total of 0 servers polled.
2016-09-20 13:05:23.249 OWServer Total of 0 devices updated.
2016-09-20 13:05:23.251 OWServer OWServer data parsed successfully.

Not sure how but the IP address seemed to have changed. The IP address wasn't fixed in the router so I changed that. Secondly I changed the IP address of the OWserver plugin.

Now I am seeing the following in my log:

2016-09-20 16:07:23.154 OWServer Error OWServer hasn't been updated in 0:04:01.153000. If this condition persists, check it's connection.
2016-09-20 16:07:23.166 OWServer Getting OWServer data...
2016-09-20 16:07:23.388 OWServer Total of 0 servers polled.
2016-09-20 16:07:23.389 OWServer Total of 3 devices updated.
2016-09-20 16:07:23.390 OWServer OWServer data parsed successfully.

or

2016-09-20 16:07:23.166 OWServer Getting OWServer data...
2016-09-20 16:07:23.388 OWServer Total of 0 servers polled.
2016-09-20 16:07:23.389 OWServer Total of 3 devices updated.
2016-09-20 16:07:23.390 OWServer OWServer data parsed successfully.

It seems that it is updating but it is saying 0 servers polled and sometime that the plugin hasn't been updated.

Re: Error OWserver plugin

Thanks for the report back on your experience. I will add a better error trap for when the OWServer device IP changes -- it's trapping okay, but the message is less helpful than it could be.

Regarding the error you're seeing now, I suspect that you have a Server Device created that needs to have it's IP address updated. I don't think that it's a good idea for me to update the IP address of these devices automatically, given the number of variables at play (IP address changes, new servers added, etc.) but I'll look into adding this as a part of the log message change.

If it turns out that a Server Device is not the culprit, please do let me know and we can look into it further.

Re: Error OWserver plugin

Updating the Indigo OWS Server Device IP did the trick. The error message is gone. Funny though that the values were still updated.

My think was that updating the IP address in the plugin configuration was enough .

Thanks.

Glad to hear that worked for you. I can understand why you would think that updating the plugin preferences would be enough. It becomes a bit trickier when trying to balance servers that are offline temporarily, IP changes, setups with multiple servers, etc.

I'll definitely consider options to simplify the process in the future.
