Facial Recognition with KeyLemon API

A co-worker recently asked me whether our security system has facial recognition capability. For those thinking about breaking into my office - it doesn't. But the question got me thinking about my own house. Could facial recognition be used to fire events in Indigo. I don't really have a practical need - but what if your face triggered a playlist when you got home, or a lighting scheme. I Googled "facial recognition software mac" and came up with a product named "KeyLemon" They offer web based tools and an API. Now I don't know much about coding, but I do know this community can figure it out.

Here's a link to the developer page: https://developers.keylemon.com

Looking forward to seeing what, if anything, you all come up with!

I wouldn't tell my wife, I'd just enable it then confuse her when the house starts recognising her!

Would be an awesome plugin though, I imagine it might help with the age old problem of occupancy sensing.

Very interesting...I will have a look :)

Edit: the free package is "just" for 1000 face recognition, then it starts from 69$ per month...

Re: Facial Recognition with KeyLemon API

I'm going to guess that's 1000 instances of a recognition, not 1000 different faces? Still if it is it's more than enough for your average home i guess... depending on how often it was called.

Re: Facial Recognition with KeyLemon API

I have intended 1000 times the call function "recognize this face" :)

If 3 people are living in the house and all of them get out and in during the day only one time, 1000 times are enough for less than one year...

Indeed! If you're thinking of making a plugin for this it might be a good idea to allow it only to work when triggered.. Eg enable for 3 mins after the front door is opened, then it could return to standby mode... If that's even possible!

Re: Facial Recognition with KeyLemon API

A typical scenario could be:

- open front door --> camera takes a photo --> upload to server and face recognition

unless you exit/enter your house 1000/day, then is ok :)
As a condition you could also set if "alarm=true", as example.
If you go out just to go into the garden, it makes no sense to trigger the face recognition... :)

Sounds like you've already thought about this ;). Good luck!

I am waiting for the Netatmo Welcome Camera...but it is not yet on the market.

I will try to implement something similar :)

I looked into this a while back... I believe that the usage limit is 1000 verifications per month -- but note that "verification" is not a 1:1 ratio; if you have, say, 3 people in the house and setup then it verifies a face against all three and you get docked 3 verifications for every single "attempt" to recognize the face. For a small house this still may not be a huge deal still, but it will add up much more quickly that you imagine I think.

There are a couple of other APIs out there, including open source libraries, that I have investigated for work. Honestly, the easiest to use is actually Microsoft's Xbox camera and now that many of Microsoft's development tools are going open source AND coming to OS X, this could be a potential down the road...
