Tiny bit of wife approval!!

So today I did the most minor of configs yet one that’s got instant wife approval!

I simply set the Christmas lights to turn on and off along with the lounge lamps that we turn on whenever we are in the room. Simply trigger but very effective!

Not quite full automation but nice to get some appreciation/approval for techy goodness!

Good job! You gotta celebrate and hold on to the small wins! Mine loves to say “Alexa, turn on/off the Christmas tree” and it actually work. Literally the only thing she enjoys about the whole automated house.

It usually ends up being the easy stuff that gets the most attention. All of our Christmas lights come on automatically at sunset and go off automatically at 11pm (but if we go to bed before that they get turned off then as well). Having a Christmas Lights device group makes this super easy.

Re: Tiny bit of wife approval!!

I was super happy that I identified a need my wife had: sometimes she naps on the living room sofa, and I needed a way to let her suspend the LR lights from turning on if she shifted on the sofa and triggered a motion sensor.

So I set up the last of my unassigned Flic buttons to do just that--to tell Indigo to stop triggering LR lights based on motion when the button was pressed, and to force them to stay on when it was double clicked.

Demonstrated this for my wife, and she was quite happy about it. Put the button where she could decide if she liked the placement, if it was handy enough. Well, it was handy enough for my dog to chew up not 2 hours later!

SmartThings refugee, so happy to be on Indigo. Monterey on a base M1 Mini w/Harmony Hub, Hue, DomoPad, Dynamic URL, Device Extensions, HomeKitLink, Grafana, Plex, uniFAP, Fantastic Weather, Nanoleaf, LED Simple Effects, Bond Home, Camect.

Re: Tiny bit of wife approval!!

For us the tree lights come on when the alarm is disarmed or the bedroom door opens for the first time in the morning.

My wife rolls her eyes at it every year but I know she secretly loves it...

My dogs apparently find automation gadgets tasty too. They've chewed up every Roomba Virtual Wall I had around the house, any magnetic door/window sensor they can reach, and a couple of low-mounted motion sensors that tracked their movement. Oh and one of the leak sensors I have behind the toilets - that caused a panicked drive home from work when I thought the bathroom was flooding -- turns out it was just the sensor's dying cry for help. :|

Definitely more actual ‘automation’ on the cards for 2018. Some browsing of the forums for inspiration me thinks

Heh, on the 3rd and final now... She’s a hair stylist and into fashion; so since I’m bald and plain, her world is as foreign to me as mine is to her.

I don't know Terry, you clean up pretty good if that picture over there is any indication.

I came here to drink milk and kick ass....and I've just finished my milk.

Well Terry, if the third wife doesn’t work out you can always consider husband #1.

In all seriousness though you do seem to have a nice sense of style. Something I most definely don’t, although I have to admit I don’t think I looked too bad at a wedding I was at last weekend:

Ha thanks! That was a business trip to Toronto about 4 years (and 50 pounds) ago!

Looking good sir!! We have the same hairstyle, although you have at least one more kilt than I.
