(And I also bought an elite. And a fire tv stick. And Harry Potter to give to Claire as a way of apology)

Re: Pete's R&D Build Thread

Somebody stop him!
I'm thinking 2 elites will replace my 2 GC Wifi to iR's and the spare Logitech Harmony One can be used for upstairs.
One awesome thought I did have was with the new Xbox one S, I get a 4K HMDI splitter and use the existing HDMI link between my 2 rooms to play Xbox in either room, providing the new Bluetooth controllers stretch that far !

Re: Pete's R&D Build Thread

Does the Xbox still have an IR port (or connect via Bluetooth to the harmony?)

Re: Pete's R&D Build Thread

Not sure yet - Xbox One S is arriving at the end of Sept! (Pre-Order only at the moment for the 500GB model, and since I only really wanted it for the 4K UHD Blu-Ray player I was going to stump up the cash for the 2TB version that launched a week or so ago)

It can be controlled via wireless, not sure about IR, and definitely bluetooth on the new model. We'll see if it lists the One S as a compatible device.

Ok so first disappointment, it doesn't work with Honeywell Evohome :( Even though it says it works with all Honeywell Wifi thermostats.

It's not Christmas 2017 yet - plenty of time to save up before I7 comes along.

Christmas 2017 for pre orders. Won't actually ship until 2020. Of course if Jay would just DO SOME WORK INSTEAD OF FLYING THE JET AROUND ALL DAY IN SEARCH OF PROOF OF CHEMTRAILS.......

Re: Pete's R&D Build Thread

On another note, old faithful is out cutting the grass again. Be interested to see how you get on with it!

I still have most of my boundary wire on the surface with just the tent peg type things keeping it down.
The spots where the mower chewed through I've now dug those underground.
You don't see the boundary wire after a few days.

Also a tip from my mistake. You need to run a guide wire from the mower directly out and across the garden which joins on to the outer ring of the boundary. So leave enough slack on the join so you have plenty to use when crimping it together. I ended up having to tug through another foot or so, annoyed!

I've also ended up buying more crimp connectors from Amazon for a few quid as you only get 2 or 3 spares. When a wire breaks you need 2 of them. 1 to join the break, but another to add some extra wire.
You could leave plenty of slack around the whole boundary but I worried too much about the mower snagging.

Re: Pete's R&D Build Thread

Thanks for that! Yeah I'm gonna have to think about the cable as next year I'm planning to landscape the garden a bit (at the moment it's basically just the big block of grass the developers left). I might have to just put it down now around the whole perimeter and replace it when the time comes!

Actually that's a question.. if the boundary is just fence all the way around do you still need the wire? Or does it just bounce around like roombas do?

Re: Pete's R&D Build Thread

It still needs it to guide the mower, but yeah it'll just bounce off.
I've actually laid the boundary wire in the flower bed in some areas and let the mower just bounce off the plants / bushes.

You're meant to leave something like 20cm from the edge to the boundary wire to allow the mower to cut over this. It never its the very edge of the lawn but it does a pretty good job. I'm yet to need to run a strimmer along the edge and that's after a month or two now.
