Accessing a serial USB device remotely

There are many cases where it may be desirable to access a USB connected serial device over the network. While USB extension cables are available, they are expensive and often have connectivity issues.

There is an inexpensive and simple solution:
A RasberryPI board and the Ser2Sock USB port forwarder. Using this combo you can locate the RPi wherever your USB Serial device is and then access that using standard socket programming. Complete solution, <$50.

Interesting. That could be a nice alternative for the Global Cache modules.
