New to Indigo and HA. Running pro with z-wave and a few plugins. I am looking for assistance from someone experienced with plugin dev for help with this.
Want to build an OPC (OLE for Process Control) client plugin. This would open up connections to industrial automation equipment like PLC's, Modbus, motor drives, etc.
There is a free OPC server that works out of the box with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC's and Modbus TCP. http://www.inductiveautomation.com/products/ignitionopc/overview
With a PLC, the above OPC server, and an Indigo plugin you would be able to access I/O on a PLC easily.
An example: I have an Allen Bradley micrologix PLC controlling the radiant floor heat in my basement (2 pumps, some thermocouple inputs, and 3 solenoid valves). I would love to have visibility and control to this system through Indigo.
Here are the resources that could be used for this:
There is an open source python OPC client already out there: http://openopc.sourceforge.net/
Here is the free OPC server software that runs on mac: http://www.inductiveautomation.com/products/ignitionopc/overview
This OPC server will natively talk to Allen Bradley or Siemens PLC's and Modbus TCP (someone has a plugin request for Modbus already).
Thanks,
Chris
