Errors during remote server connection

Anyone seeing anything similar to this?

When remotely connecting to the Indigo server the Indigo client will often fail on the first connection. When it fails I quit the client and open it again, which then opens straight away. Furthermore, when it does connect and I check the logs I always see errors have occurred during the failed remote connection attempt.

There is a pattern and is reproducible.

1. The first connection will fail. The Server Connection Status window is displayed for about 10-15 seconds and then disappears but without the Indigo UI opening. The second attempt right after I quit it connects straight away.

Occasionally, after the 10-15 second display The Server Connection Status widow the Indigo UI does open, but that is also after a further delay.

2. The failure is only after a connection attempt to the Indigo server has not occurred for around 20mins or so. And the errors are only when using the Mac clients. (Tested using 2 Macs). No such errors occur when using the iOS clients.

3. It's always the same kind of errors. See below.

4. This started around the time I installed Indigo 7.0.3 and macOS 10.12.3 - whether it's Indigo, macOS, or both, I don't know.

They are all on the same network. And as you can see from some of the log grabs that I was able to authenticate straight after the failed attempt, while others after the long pause. One of the IP connections is from Uptime Robot, which I use to ping the Indigo server IP address and port to check for uptime status, so that can be ignored.

And just to be clear, I never see errors with with any of the plugins other than during the connection attempt.

Have been having the same symptoms for some time now. Only happens with the Mac client never with the IOS.
Some times the client takes a long time to connect and I get Similar errors to Shutter's (Error in plugin execution runConcurrentThread:)
Other times the client just never connects and I have to quit it. On restart of the client it will connect in a few seconds.

I believe Jay has encountered a similar problem before, but I'm unable to reproduce it thus far.

Since it sounds like you have a reproducible set of steps to make it happen, can you try those steps again but first disable all of your plugins? I realize you said you don't get any type of plugin errors except when a client is trying to connect, but I'm still curious if the problem is related to some specific plugin. Thanks.

We really need a "save plugin set" option.

Anyway, I turned off all the plugins and waited 40mins before attempting to remotely connect to Indigo server. Exactly the same thing happened. The delay and then no UI. I then quit and connect again straight away.

You can see from the logs that I have a failed triggers because the Stella-Z plugin is disabled, and that at 10:05:00am there's a client disconnected and authentication - that's me quitting the failed first attempt and then immediately trying again, resulting in success.

No, the console log (using the Console app) - thats the system log for you Mac. Make sure you select All Messages in the top of the outline view to the left.

Oh right. I've had to redo the test, seeing as the logs from this morning aren't showing.

Here is a little more info on this trouble that might help.

This has been happening for maybe 4 or 5 months. When it first started a connecting client would take
about 25 seconds to connect and there were no errors in the log. Quilting the client and restarting the
client a second time would connect in 4 seconds with no errors.

Never had any delays on IOS iPads and phone. Connecting to control page with safari no delays.

Over time I would get the client start to take up to 60 seconds to connect and with the longer delay got
the errors mostly - “Device Extensions Error plugin runConcurrentThread function returned or failed (will attempt again in 10 seconds)”

Did try disabling plugin’s but could not pin the trouble down to any one plug in.

Two months ago did upgrade the clients and server to OS 10.12. That made no difference.

About 6 weeks ago decided to redo all my charts using indigo plot. Removed the plots and indigo plot.
Also had had some troubles with the SQL logger file getting corrupted. So I upgraded to Postgre SQL logger. Got the logger working with indigo, reinstalled indigo plot but now had trouble getting it to work, it would not let me add devices. I think I just did not set things up wright and it could not read the new logger. Was going to post a note for Karl but my job was taking up my time, so I disabled
indigo plot.

Since than I have not been using the client very often so have not paid attention to any errors when connecting to the server. Shutter’s post reminded my of the trouble, so I paid more attention when connecting. I think there has been the 25 second delays with no errors since than but no long delays with errors.

This morning enabled indigo plot still with no devices added and connected the client. This time
got a long 50 second delay and a list of errors. Tried a few more time and always had a long delay
with errors.

Disabled indigo plot. tried again later today and still getting long delay with errors and indigo plot
disabled.

Quit client and reconnected this time it did not connect and after about 60 seconds the connect window closed the client was open with no windows, Quit client and restored client this time opened
in about 4 seconds with the following errors

I've been carrying out a bunch of test and can now stop and start the issue at will. For me the issue only occurs when I have my USB 3 hard drives plug into a USB 3 hub connected to my Mac running Indigo.

If I leave the hub connected but unmount the drives the issue goes away. I tested this on and off yesterday and it's been consistent. I don't have Energy Saver set to put the hard drives to sleep when possible. I've also seen this issue when opening the Indigo client on the same Mac, and not just remotely. It's just that's how I generally connect to ndigo.

Do you have any drives connected to you Indigo Mac? I know there are known issues with wifi and USB 3 drives, but I have the wifi turned off on my Indigo Mac and only use Ethernet.

Check you Console logs. Make sure it's running before you launch Indigo and when the issue occurs check the Console logs and look at the matching timestamp to see if you have something similar to what I'm consistently seeing. I always see the wirelessproxd message.

Yes I do have multiple USB hard drives and multiple fire wire hard drives. Also a few USB hubs. Should have time tonight or over the

FYI - I have a USB3 drive connected to my development MacBook Pro, which I purchased last year. Before that it was on an old Mac Pro. I've noticed that the drive periodically seems to spin down and go to sleep, then when Time Machine wants to do it's thing (I use it as a Time Machine backup drive) it takes 7-8 seconds to spin up and while that's happening I get the beachball and most apps just sorta hang up.

This never happened on my Mac Pro and it's super annoying. I haven't yet gotten around to investigating why it seemed to start with the MacBook, but I wonder if something similar is happening to you guys and it's just taking longer for the drives to spin up. I think Matt asked this before but I don't recall the answer: is Indigo accessing any of the external drives for any reason? Do you store your DB there or have any external scripts on those drives? Any plugins that might read/write files on those drives?
