What are the settings in Mail.app that allow you to send email using that SMTP server?

I use IMAP with mail.app and I think Indigo requires POP/SMTP. Am I mistaken?

Both Mail.app and Indigo use SMTP to send emails. Mail.app can use either IMAP or POP to get emails. Indigo uses POP natively, but you can use IMAP with my BetterEmail plugin.

The "Email Sending" section of Indigo preferences should match your SMTP server settings in Mail.app.

iCloud is a different email account. You need to set up an account in Mail.app for your Optimum Online email account and get that working, then use the same settings in Indigo. There's instructions for various email clients linked from that page I referenced. If you have problems getting Mail.app to work with that account, then you need to contact Optimum Online for assistance.

So I configured the opitmum online account to work in mail.app. Uses port 587 with password security. But it will not work in Indigo. No matter what I do. Fails every time.

I had the same problem and after some research I came across the fix. At least for me. 1. Log into your Apple ID account page at https://appleid.apple.com 2. In the security section, click "Generate Password" below App-Specific Passwords. 3. Follow the steps on your screen. After you generate your app-specific password, enter or paste it into the password field of the app as you would normally. For Indigo this is done in preferences in the email section. Everything stays the same except you enter your new app password instead. If you need server host name it is smtp.mail.me.com for Apple. As soon as I applied this method it worked instantly. Good Luck.

I am having an email authentication failure. I am using port 465. I tried webmail with the same credentials and webmail works. So, my credentials are good but authentication is failing. It was working fine with same settings until last few days. Any ideas?

Who's the provider?

Dreamhost. Connecting from Indigo via Comcast. The smtp server is at sub5.mail.dreamhost.com and I know that works because I was able to use Dreamhost webmail with same credentials.

My first thought is that if it used to work, and stopped without you changing anything, then Dreamhost must have changed something. Have you asked them?

Otherwise, make sure you have BetterEmail set up the same as WP from this article: https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/art ... TP-plugin-

Nothing changed on my end that I know of. I chatted with Dreamhost, and they said nothing changed on their end. I am not familiar with BetterMail, but plain old smtp should work without it, right? I have been using smtp and pop mail with Indigo for years.

Oops. I thought this was a BetterEmail plugin thread. Color me clueless.
