Everspring ST814 Temperature/Humidity Sensor problems

Hi guys,

maybe my first post? Don't know/remember.

Well, I have a Everspring ST814 Temperature/Humidity Sensor since a couple of years. It has worked flawlessly a couple of years with Indigo6 and The Z-stick 2.
I upgraded to Indigo7 and did not notice any problems with it, but I am not shore since I did not give it any special treatment... It have just worked all the time before.

Then I last weekend upgraded my Z-stick to gen5 and re-synced all my devices. Everything went well. No errors and no problems. Just yesterday I noticed that it was getting cold (-7 degrees Celsius outside ) in my hobby room in the garage. I found out that the temperature and humidity statuses from my ST814 are not updated to Indigo7!

I am using the "Smart Devices" plugin with the ST814 as thermostat and two Fibaro Wall Plug Relays (FGWP101) are steering my two radiators. It has worked ok for about a year, no problems.
Now I have synced the ST814 several times with the same result: the sync goes through very well and everything seems good. BUT, the ST814 doesn't update anymore after the sync.
Indigos "Last update" does not wine about anything being wrong. It just seems that everything is ok? If I choose the ST814 and press "Send status request" I will get a red "no ack" status. So it seems somehow that the ST814 is dead after the "Define and sync..." procedure.

Any good thoughts what I should do now? I will also attach the sync log. No errors or problems are showing in the Event log for the ST814...

Re: Everspring ST814 Temperature/Humidity Sensor problems

Terve Bek! :lol:

Country fellowman here (born in Sweden though but with both parents being from Finland)! 8)

I am on Indigo 7.0.2 with latest Z-Wave plugin 2.0.40 on a Mac Mini with an Aeon Labs S5 Gen 5 stick (my dev environment) and I have many (!!) of the ST814 devices.

I transferred one of my ST814 into my dev environment setup as described above and I tested with setting the reporting interval to 1 minute. I see temp and humidity updates in the log and the GUI every minute without problems so it it working quite nice over here (Stockholm, Sweden... 8) )

Re: Everspring ST814 Temperature/Humidity Sensor problems

Try excluding it and re-including it to the Z-Stick, the re-syncing the new node ID.

If that doesn't help, then turn on debug Z-Wave logging via the Interfaces->Z-Wave->Configure menu item and let it run for 20 minutes or so, then copy/paste the Event Log results into a reply for me. Include the results of both the re-sync as well as the 20 minutes of waiting to see if it sends any data.

Re: Everspring ST814 Temperature/Humidity Sensor problems

Ok so this is my first Z-Wave device. I have the Eversrping ST814, and a new Gen 5 Z-wave stick.

I've managed to enable the stick in Indigo as an interface. The stick flashes Blue, White, Red, then repeat.

I've removed it from my computer, pressed the button, the blue light flashes, then I press the C/F button on the ST814 three times. Things happen, the Linking icon flashes on the ST814, and then the stick continues to flash blue.

I plug the stick back into the computer, the stick goes back to the tricolor flash pattern, and I am able to create the ST814 as a Z-Wave device as non-encrypted in Indigo, both temp and humidity show up as separate devices. I note that the sensor is set to Cº, so I change it to Fº, then press the Send Status Request for the device, and the temp in Indigo changes from Cº to Fº. Likewise, I edit the Device Settings, and change the Wake Interval to 5 minutes, and press the Send Status Request in Indigo.

All is well.

Then a few minutes later, I press the Send Status Request in Indigo again, and communications fail. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but just am not sure what. The sensor is sitting right next to the computer during this entire series of events.

Re: Everspring ST814 Temperature/Humidity Sensor problems

I think you are just seeing that the module is asleep (since it is battery powered). Thus the status request ("poll") of the device doesn't work unless you happen to wake the module first. The module should, however, periodically broadcast out the changes in the sensor values, so polling shouldn't really be needed.

Re: Everspring ST814 Temperature/Humidity Sensor problems

Yep yep

Kind of what I was thinking..

I searched the boards for other info, and there is a "reporting time" setting... default was never... or some other long interval. Re-set it to 2 mins... at least for the time being... and now all is well.

Lastly, since this is my first Z-Wave encounter, is it normal for the Z-Stick to cycle thru the three colors under normal use?

As always...
a huge THANKS!

I have all my ST814 set to 15 min reporting intervals and the wake up time to once a day. These settings helps to keep the battery life long (approx 1 year).
You can force a wake-up of the unit by triple-clicking the button marked with the square. The ST814 will then be awake for (I think) about 15-30 seconds in order to receive commands from Indigo if you want to change any of the settings.

Lastly, since this is my first Z-Wave encounter, is it normal for the Z-Stick to cycle thru the three colors under normal use?

Yepp this is normal when the Z-Stick is in normal operating mode.

Read more in the quick start guide and full manual at
Quick start guide: https://aeotec.freshdesk.com/support/so ... essentials
Full manual with engineering specs:
http://www.vesternet.com/downloads/dl/f ... manual.pdf
https://aeotec.freshdesk.com/support/so ... er-manual-

If you download and install the Z-Stick Gen5 backup software then there is a tick box for turning off the LED:
https://aeotec.freshdesk.com/support/so ... d-restore-
(The installation program is in Chinese but just run through the install as normally and when the program starts you have it in English.)

With the backup program you can:

1. Backup your Gen5 Z-Stick
2. Restore your setup from a previous backup
3. Set the power level
4. Turn the LED functionality on/off
5. Enable/Disable the security protocol

There is also the software IMA Tool (Installation and Maintenance Application Tool) that you can use to test network health and signal strength to each device in your Z-Wave network. Read more on the full manual page I linked to above. It can be somewhat tricky to find the IMA Tool on Aeotecs webpage. You have to download the "Z-Stick Gen5 UZB Drivers" zip-packag e and when you unzip the file you will get two folders where one of the folders is called "zensys-tools" and there you will find the IMA Tool (file is called ZWaveController.exe")

Re: Everspring ST814 Temperature/Humidity Sensor problems

Thanks

This is very helpful. I'm not quite in my new house yet, but as I said, this was my first Z-Wave" test", and I was able to finally get it working.... no doubt info that will come in handy for the rest of the Z-Wave connection I'll have...

I'm going to download the tool, so when the time comes for final installation, I'll be further down the path than I am now.

Thanks!

Re: Everspring ST814 Temperature/Humidity Sensor problems

So I'm trying to use the ST814 temp sensor as a trigger to enable or disable a schedule. I've got the schedule part of the script working fine, but am using this simpler script as a test... All this does is turn the device on... never off, regardless of the temps the sensor is reporting..

I'm guessing the IF statement is the problem, but am not sure. The script compiles correctly, and runs without any errors, but only turns the device ON. Right now, the outside temp is 19º (frozen south..), but when I click the RUN button, all that happens is the device turns on.

Any suggestions?

Code: Select all
dev = indigo.devices[644159320] #ST814 temp ID

if dev.sensorValue <= "10":

   indigo.device.turnOn(1760428348)

if dev.sensorValue >= "11":

   indigo.device.turnOff(1760428348)

this is the code I've got, but all it does is turn on the device, regardless of the temp.

Re: Everspring ST814 Temperature/Humidity Sensor problems

Try:
Code: Select all
dev = indigo.devices[644159320] #ST814 temp ID

if dev.sensorValue <= 10:
    indigo.device.turnOn(1760428348)
else:
    indigo.device.turnOff(1760428348)
Note the use of 10 (an integer) rather than "10" (a string).
See if that works? :)

Re: Everspring ST814 Temperature/Humidity Sensor problems

Well that worked out perfectly!

I didn't think about doing the "else" part... just the 2 different temps, but this seems easier and works perfectly.

Thanks for the help.

Cheers

Re: Everspring ST814 Temperature/Humidity Sensor problems

So things have been working swell, until I forgot to change the battery for 6 weeks.

Z-Wave communication is working ok, but now temp is reported as "%"...

May 14, 2018 at 5:47:45 PM
Z-Wave received "Outisde - Temperature" sensor update to 97.3 °F
Trigger T-115 Disable AM Temp Change
Z-Wave received "Outisde - Temperature" units changed to °F
Z-Wave received "Outisde - Temperature" sensor update to 23%
Trigger T-115 Disable AM Temp Change
Z-Wave received "Outisde - Temperature" units changed to %

The device is measuring the right temp, but the last line has me confused.. :(. Humidity is begin reported correctly... but the temp is getting changed.. don't know why..

Try excluding it from the Z-Stick (or other controller), re-including it, then re-syncing it in Indigo.

Re: Everspring ST814 Temperature/Humidity Sensor problems

Hey Matt

Seems this may be written up as "operator error". I fiddle with the device itself, and finally got it to behave. I find the manual not very helpful, and found no mention of the behavior I was seeing... but regardless... its working now.

Thanks!
