Send RS232 commands from a PC?

Is there a way to use an old PC with a 4xRS232 card, in order to control several AV units? I would like to have a virtual RS232 interface on my mac, and some way to transfer the traffic on that interface to the PC (which of course would have to link this to the physical RS232 card).
Perhaps by inventive use of a utility or two?

Best regards,

Mark

Install Linux on the PC and then get to know the socat utility. It will do what you want, at least from a terminal/UNIX perspective on the Mac. Apple adds a warm and fuzzy layer between TTY (serial) devices and the GUI, effectively breaking their use in apps like Indigo and most other GUI applications without writing a specialized driver, that nobody seems to have done yet...anywhere. For some odd reason the world at large has little interest for the combination of serial devices and Apple products.
