Post Pics of Your Control Pages HERE!

Oh wow.. always loved the TAM.. although anyone who could afford one was clearly too rich for me to ever socialise with ;). One of the few models that I’ve never owned a variant of. How much do they even sell for these days? I’d imagine a reasonable amount.

Also nice uh.. control page I guess :). Might wanna blank out the bit about XTENsion .. don’t want Matt or Jay having a small stroke at the thought of someone using.. it.

Re: Post Pics of Your Control Pages HERE!

I'm right with you on the original price--it was ridiculous. $7500 I think?

When no body bought any, apple sold them at fire sale prices. I think mine was $1500 or so back then.

Prices vary widely on eBay, with most of them being incomplete. In working condition with no issues, $2000 is around the market price. Mine has literally everything: Sales receipt, box, internal boxes, all documentation mint, GeoPort Modem, TWO ethernet cards and their required riser adapters, the commemorative pen AND it's leather case, the stamped leather CD wallet, even the MacMall catalog that came with it and the poster, which I've had professionally framed. So I'm hoping for north of that $2000.

Wow impressive! I’ll give you £20.00. With exchange rates n stuff that’s about comparable. ;). Post some pics of it :)

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a TAM in the flesh. I’ve seen a pen for one.. someone that used to come to my shop when I ran an Apple reseller shop had previously worked for Apple and had various trinkets including the pen. He also has a prototype cube as that was a project he worked on.

That is so freaking cool!! I had forgotten about the TAM - never saw one up close, but remember thinking of it as a computer from the future! Man, how far we've come in 20 years! Seeing the screen shots really made me miss OS9, I loved that interface!

Nah, we have lots of more important things to concern ourselves with.

I still miss some aspects of system 7-9.. the roll up function on windows, the tabbed windows at the bottom of the screen.. the simplicity of it all. I sometimes wonder if the evolution on macOS and windows has gone a bit too far...

Re: Post Pics of Your Control Pages HERE!

Having spent a good portion of my professional life dealing with Mac OS in one way or another, I can say I'm VERY happy that the days of pre OS X are gone. Extension conflicts, random crashes/hangs, trying cmd-opt-P-R and hoping that it would fix stuff definitely belongs in the past. As much as I think Apple is slipping in terms of OS release quality, they still are way ahead of OS 8/9.

Oh I didn’t see the posted pics! Lovely! £25? :D

And yes.. the old days of system installs.. remember how truly awful 7.5.3 was for stability? I was more meaning the simplicity of the UI than anything else. That said it been many moons since I last used it so chances are I’m remembering how it looked through rose tinted glasses!

Try managing a support team supporting 250+ users on it ( was it 7.5 that was especially bad? I've blanked it out...), along with 20+ servers of various types...

Fortunately when system 7.5.3 was the in thing I was still in school.. so fortunately I never suffered through that. I did however write a FileMaker management tool that integrated with OpenDoc for the school. Now THAT was a PITA!

Re: Post Pics of Your Control Pages HERE!

Yeah, the Windows (DOS) side of things wasn't much better -- tweaking that damn autoexec.bat file to load extended memory managers and such... Windows and OS X have come a long way in terms of usability for the average user. Even today we dislike portions of both OSes and their directions, but for the average Joe user, they don't care what we care about. Hard balancing act for both companies, I think.

I believe my dad still has our first Macintosh (the first model)... but I don't know if he has the boot disks and the external hard drive that was added a few years later (man that thing was humongous in physical size) is of course dead. So not sure we could boot it. Would LOVE to dig that out and find an old disk somewhere and boot it up. I would probably lose my job because I was playing Airborne for 8 hours straight. Loved that stupid little game.

Re: Post Pics of Your Control Pages HERE!

A couple yeas ago, I dug out my original Commodore 64 and it wouldn't boot (due to entropy, I'm guessing).

Fond memories of that computer. It was the first computer I used to access the Internet -- using a 300 baud modem, via an ANSI BBS. It was 1982 or 1983, I think. I also had the optional 1541 disk drive and a printer.
