Re: Xandem's Tomographic Person Tracking

I was looking at that last night. If it works as advertised it could be the holy grail of occupancy tracking. No more sitting in a room for an hour and the lights just suddenly turning off because you've been still!

Computer says no.

Interesting...

I love the two references to "XANDEM HOME APIs AND INTEGRATION section above" which doesn't exist. But, assuming they do in fact have some kind of REST integration, it may work well with Indigo.

Re: Xandem's Tomographic Person Tracking

That looks really cool except... I wonder if I actually have an available plug that is visible to the room (not hidden behind large masses that, presumably, will block signal or reduce accuracy) in most of my rooms.

Re: Xandem's Tomographic Person Tracking

I thought that, but did notice they intentionally included one in the video which was behind the big lumpy cabinet, so presumably they don't think it's too detrimental?

Re: Xandem's Tomographic Person Tracking

Alas I'm going to be skeptical of its abilities until we've actually seen it in action. But, I do hope that it is successful.

Re: Xandem's Tomographic Person Tracking

With all solutions you likely need 2 different types of sensors to reduce the false positives for the away state.

The i beacon has not delivered a false positive away yet in my setup. But the exact location is a bit more difficult. You could be in the room next door and would still be "UP/ in the room". The Signal strength works a bit, but if you e.g. carry the iBeacon in your pocket, the iBeacon might face the iBeacon detector or be pointing away i.e. you are between the Beacon and the iBeacon detector. That reduces the signal by ~ 10+dBm.

this one + an ibeacon could may be do it.

Anyone else tired of how Crowdfunding and Vaporware have taken the place of actual products?

Re: Xandem's Tomographic Person Tracking

There is now documentation on the API here, and it seems they are now shipping to early backers.

Re: Xandem's Tomographic Person Tracking

I'm surprised, I honestly expected more vapour ware. Did you pre order one?

Re: Xandem's Tomographic Person Tracking

I just read through all the docs. It'll be interesting to see how performance of the plugin modules are (they recommend mounting the nodes higher than standard plug height), how well it works in 2-story structures, etc. I also don't really understand the coordinate system in the API - it looks like it's missing information if it's supposed to be reporting all the areas where there might be motion (they have a z coordinate but that doesn't really suffice for reporting multiple locations where there is motion).

Anyway, it'll be fun watching it develop.

Re: Xandem's Tomographic Person Tracking

I'm looking forward to this gadget to be sure. I was strongly considering buying a literal case of Fibaro sensors for each side of every door of every room so I can get a true occupancy count and management.
