Ok, but roaming works also with LITE

Bollar has given a series of good reasons to go for the pro, in addition the pro is rated indoor / outdoor which may be useful in the future, but it depends on your budget. There is little cost difference between lite and LR so no reason not to go LR, There is a bigger step to the pro but I bought the pros as I know I'll keep these for years so the cost difference is not that significant to me.

I believe your configuration is working great, but we really need to be clear that ZH/ZHO is NOT available on the UAC-AP-PRO, per the guys who are actually developing the firmware. It is ONLY available on the older non-AP (square) devices (UAP, UAP-LR, UAP-Pro, UAP-Outdoor).

Personally, I think your success is due to the robustness of the Ubiquiti devices and think you might get slightly better performance if you didn't have everything on the same channel.

So yes we have prototypes of 802.11rkv in the Beta forum and will be focusing back on them soon.

Zero-handoff does not really make sense for 802.11ac radios, as it's a same-channel architecture. So to have adequate roaming in your network design with it - you necessary reduce the CINR such that 802.11ac rates are not achieved.

So the focus will be on 802.11rkv.

For those who'd like to use zero-handoff still, I'd recommend going with our standard generation-one (non-AC) line up, given that using zero-handoff on the -AC gear would make it perform identically to the less-expensive 11n gear.

So I'd recommend using UAP, UAP-LR, UAP-Pro, UAP-Outdoor, etc.

I'll mark this as idea as not accepted.

And in the log you can see that it actually does it- you see and "sign off" and "sign in" on the 2 involved ap-pros with the time stamp

Does it look like any of these events?

Not really a comment on the Unifi products but this is what I do to improve handoff.

I use the Netspot app to survey http://www.netspotapp.com/features.html
I then either move to reduce the radio strengh of the AP so that signal overlap between two AP's is about -80db

I get pretty good roaming.

I looking forward to the new wireless standard so that selecting an AP is not just a client decision.

This is the log file output of (the first 3 columns are added by the plugin)
/usr/bin/tail -f /var/log/messages
on the 2 AP-pro. You could ssh in 2 terminal windows to each AP and issue the tail command to see it , or use the plugin and select message and message detail loging to file

I walked between the 2 APs (4-Kons and 5-gameRoom) several times. As I walk form the current AP to the other the wifi signal goes down, to about 2 bars then up again to full as I approach the other AP.
The new AP logs a connect BEFORE the other AP logs a disconnect (6 seconds later). I also tested that during that time when the AP switches the phone call continues without problems.
Again, its likely not the STANDARD way, but it works.

As for the throughput. YES the 5 GHz is NOT FULL SPEED, but for me it is faster than my internet connection. That is good enough for me. If I need a fast 5GHz I will add another AP just for that, but I have not found anything that would need it. I guess I don't play high speed games ..

For me this is a good solution until the next version / hardware/ software .. does it better..

YOU MUST SETUP THE AP-PRO in a defined zero Handshake network in order to get this setup. Then there are no option for signal cut-off and other params == all internal magic.

1 setup a plan group network with zero handshake. (here called "2"). most options are removed when it is zero handshake
2. in the AP configuration in radio select that network

do the same for 5 GHz.

It looks to me like my log is similar to yours and I'm seeing associations before disassociations , but I haven't tried walking around with a VoIP call or any of that.

I left the logs open all night and captured every entry that references my iPhone's MAC address. The one thing I do see is that I don't have all the entries you do. Is that a log level difference? Otherwise, it looks like association with a new AP occurs before dissociation with an old AP most of the time.

Maybe there would be more information on the client side. In a ZH configuration, the client can only see one AP, as they all present the same MAC address. Since clients are unaware of any AP changes, I wouldn't expect any roaming messages at all.

My three AC-Pro's have arrived

So I first discovered them on the network, then they updated themselves, all fine. Now I also set up the default network and it seems happy enough, but when I try to set up a second Wireless Network I am not seeing anything different to the first, no mention of Zero Handoff capability? I am using the release version of Unify on a Mac if that makes a difference.

Can anyone tell me how I set these up to enable the Zero handoff?

The UAC-AP-PRO do not support ZHO and I encourage you to re-read this entire thread to see the issues and when ZHO might or might not work. Having said that, here is Karl's configuration with UAC-AP-PROs that he says works: viewtopic.php?f=118&t=13782#p116299
