Siri/Homekit understands context

Actually, not sure if this is new with ios11 or if I just now stumbled upon it, but...

I've been using the homebridge plugin (not HBB) with Indigo of a while, but just this morning I found a new feature. I usually ask Siri the Temp, status of lights, etc. Nothing new there, but now I can ask her to change it, during the "conversation", without having to state the device again:

Hey Siri, what's the temperature downstairs?
It's currently about 73 degrees
Hey Siri, set it to 74
Ok, I've set the downstairs HVAC to 74 degrees

and

Hey Siri, is the kitchen light on?
Your lights are are on
Hey Siri, turn it off
Ok. you lights are off

Notice that Siri understands "it" in the contexts above. Is this new, or just new to me? Hopefully, when the HomePod comes out, the 2nd "Hey Siri" will be unnecessary too.

Re: Siri/Homekit understands context

It definitely wasn't present in iOS 10. Though tvOS10 did have contextual awareness for searches. Never tested it for home kit and I don't have anything on it now to test with either. Though it wasn't included in the Keynote for iOS 11 that I recall either.
