Nice Screen

The building I work in has rolled out a new "destination dispatch" elevator system using Schindler's PORT technology. Not all that notable in and of itself, but the screens seem to me like they would make a fantastic HA control. They are incredibly solid and nice to the touch, come in a pedestal configuration as well as wall mount, and in a variety of colors. The accessibility button at the top is optional (although I'm very glad that our building opted for them). There is also a proximity card sensor underneath--that could double as a night light....

Alas, I don't think that they're available to the public.

Re: Nice Screen

Very cool. Im pretty sure someone could make something very similar with an old iPhone and a good 3D printer though :)

Re: Nice Screen

This thing is metal and glass and super solid. The back (or inside?) has a nice smooth arc to it that's very comfortable to hold.

I wonder if they'd notice that one went missing.....

Re: Nice Screen

The last time I was in Vegas, Caesar's had this in one of it's hotels; it was an older model and not as sleek as this - more like Durosity's idea. These are nice! If you can rip one off the wall, rip two - I'll pay to ship one to the US!!

Re: Nice Screen

I wonder if the backside of it has a cutout to allow it to be used with the panel reversed to face the other way, and the bottom leg used as the foot instead.

The longer I look at it, the more I'm impressed by the physical design. Definitely worth duplicating for 3D printing using old phones!

I know that Chicago seems like another world and all, but I'm pretty sure it's still in the US.

Google Schindler Port Technology. There are images of a whole bunch of different options.

You can re-join the union once you get those murders under control... :-) (Says the person with New Orleans in his state, but we don't always claim them either...)

Ha! That's what I get for trying to look at HA porn, type, and pretend to pay attention in a meeting!!! In my mind you were somebody else, I'm blaming Durosity! At any rate, I'll definitely pay for the shipping from Chicago!!

We all have areas we don't want to claim! Case in point - I was watching the news last night and they mentioned that Birmingham (Al, not UK ;) )is hosing a casting-call for a new reality show: "Redneck Housewives of Alabama" I turned to my wife and said "We're moving!"

I promise we're not ALL like that, but good grief media loves to beat that stereotype to death. Believe it or not, some of us native Alabamian's are conservative, but don't enjoy killing stuff for fun, like and enjoy other races and lifestyle types, and don't walk around quoting Bible scriptures.

Here's the link to the madness: http://redneckhousewivesofalabama.com

Sounds a lot like the "Swamp People" series here - I would hope that people watching know that not everyone in Louisiana goes around in pirogues jumping into the water with alligators. Then again, the main guy on there also goes home to a multi-million dollar business empire, but I am pretty sure that somehow that was "accidentally" left off the show in favor of him being a backwoods Cajun.

I wonder if he has home automation in that mansion... :)
