remote control a remote control

I have an old remote control that works on RF. I would like to remote control that remote control with an indigo controllable device (many controls in series)
It needs 8 switches to short the buttons of the 8 old remote buttons = simulate a button press.

I was looking at the EZIO8SA, but that seems to have issues.
Also an EZFlora, EasyDAQ or Phidgets comes to mind or a solution with an arduino could work too.

Here my question: Does anyone have experience with this or any ready to use solution?
