[ANSWERED] Trouble with Connecting To My Reflector

I have only used Indigo and my Go Prism reflector a few times, but it seems like most times that I try to go to my refector at goprism.com it states that the "reflector connection is currently down". Is this a common occurrance, or am doing something incorrectly? :(

Re: Trouble with Connecting To My Reflector @ goprism.com

Are you running the latest version of Indigo (2.0.9 or the beta of 2.5)? I made some modifications to 2.0.4 and 2.0.7 that improve the reflector connectivity. I pretty much never see the "reflect is currently down" unless I've rebooted my server Mac, in which case the connection is automatically re-established within a minute or so. Occasionally I see if it my dynamic IP address changes, but again it self-corrects after just a few minutes.

What does your Event Log look like?

Regards,
Matt

Failure to Create Reflector Connection

Thanks for the help Matt. I am using Indigo 2.0.9. My event log shows an entry on Aug. 17th that states: Error: failed to create reflector connection: [Errno socket error] (7, 'No address associated with nodename' I have a registered name with Go Prism and I have used the reflector from a remote site in the past (July 7th to be exact). Trouble with Connecting To My Reflector @ goprism.com

Matt,
What does the error in my Event log mean? It says: Error: failed to create reflector connection: [Errno socket error] (7, "No address associated with nodename"
Specifically what does "No address associated with nodename mean"?
I do have a registered name with Go Prism, and I have used the reflector before. I am leaving on a trip on Tuesday am and would like to have my reflector up and working, so I can connect to Indigo on my computer while I am away. Thanks again! John

Re: Trouble with Connecting To My Reflector @ goprism.com

Hi John,

I believe that means that the domain name lookup for the GoPrism.com domain itself is failing. What happens if you stop the Indigo Server (via the Indigo 2 menu) and the restart it? Can you copy/paste what happens when the Indigo Server restarts?

I believe I have seen that error before right after system boot, possibly because the internet connection is not configured and "up" yet for the Mac. Stopping the Indigo Server and restarting it might get it working.

Let me know...

Regards,
Matt

Trouble with Connecting To My Reflector @ goprism.com

Hi Matt!
Yes! Stopping the Server and then restarting it solved the problem. The event log now states that: Starting reflector connection to https://macgyver.goprism.com
Client connected
Thanks again for your help! John

Re: Trouble with Connecting To My Reflector @ goprism.com

Thanks for the info. I'll look at modifying Indigo to be smart enough to retry the connection multiple times so that it works after a reboot. I thought it already did that, but it sounds like it isn't working in this case for some reason.

Re: Trouble with Connecting To My Reflector @ goprism.com

Since upgrading to the beta has it worked at all? Your original post sounded like it did work some, but eventually would become disconnected. I'm curious if after the update to beta 7 if has worked at all.

Also, what does the Event Log show? Does an Indigo Server restart not fix it?

Matt, to tell the truth I am not sure if this happened around the b7 update or not. A server restart does not do anything.

Re: Trouble with Connecting To My Reflector @ goprism.com

Still the same with b8;

Indigo Cocoa client connected
Error failed to create reflector connection: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted: '/Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/Indigo 5/Preferences/PrismReflector/ssh_config'
Error reflector reconnection scheduled in 15 minutes

The Event Log snipped above helps a ton. The problem is a file owner/permission issue. Try the following:

1) Launch the Terminal application (inside /Applications/Utilities/)

2) Copy/paste the following line into Terminal. You will be prompted for your OS X admin account password, which needs to be entered so that all the steps complete successfully.

Code: Select all
id
sudo bash

3) Copy/paste each line below *individually* and hit the return key after each one:

Code: Select all
cd /Library/Application\ Support/Perceptive\ Automation/
cd Indigo\ 4/Preferences/PrismReflector
ls -al
chmod ugo-x *
chmod o-rwx *
chmod g-rw id_rsa
ls -al
id

4) Select all and Copy/Paste the entire contents of the Terminal window into a support post (or an email to us).

5) Restart the Indigo Server and see if it works. If it doesn't, then copy/paste the errors from the Event Log.

Re: Trouble with Connecting To My Reflector @ goprism.com

Sorry, my instructions had the wrong folder (indigo 4 versus indigo 5). Also, it looks like the problem is the file owner should be martinc but is instead heatherc. So try this:

1) Launch the Terminal application (inside /Applications/Utilities/)

2) Copy/paste the following line into Terminal. You will be prompted for your OS X admin account password, which needs to be entered so that all the steps complete successfully.

Code: Select all
id
sudo bash

3) Copy/paste each line below *individually* and hit the return key after each one:

Code: Select all
cd /Library/Application\ Support/Perceptive\ Automation/
cd Indigo\ 5/Preferences/PrismReflector
ls -al
chmod ugo-x *
chmod o-rwx *
chmod g-rw id_rsa
chown martinc:admin *
ls -al
id

4) Select all and Copy/Paste the entire contents of the Terminal window into a support post (or an email to us).

5) Restart the Indigo Server and see if it works. If it doesn't, then copy/paste the errors from the Event Log.

I am having the same problem
I tried your fix still getting the following error.

failed to create reflector connection: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted: '/Library/Application Support/Perceptive Automation/Indigo 5/Preferences/PrismReflector/ssh_config'
Error reflector reconnection scheduled in 15 minutes

I am running Lion
